My site is linked to a porno site

Looking through my backlinks in google I found a my site (along with a bunch of other web directories) in a porn site. I promptly sent an email through the contact page to please take me off since I consider my site family friendly and the almighty G might frown upon my site being linked to porn.

Now, what is my recourse and how long should I give this site to take me off?

I don't think Google punishes sites based on who links to them, rather they will punish you based on what sites yours is linking to.

Maybe so, it's still quite upsetting. What if (theoretically), a porn webmaster decides to put a link of your site from his hundreds of porn sites don't you think the g might think your site is porn too?

I don't believe there is anything you can do about it. Anyone can link to any site they choose to. As far as google goes, who cares? Google is so messed up right now, I don't think it matters much.

In fact anyone can link to your site disregard related content.

The worst is that such porn, pharmacy, and warez sites usually hijack your keywords and/or site description to get indexed and boost their rank.

Forget about it and be happy to get another link. It will not hurt you at all.

Agreed. Always great to get free traffic -- unless it looks like your site is somehow affiliated with the porn site. Why is this site linking to you?

Porn can not be that bad right? DMOZ lists a whole lot of porn. Just do a search there.

I think you are missing the point, he has a family friendly web directory and doesnt want to be associated with such content. I wouldent even worry about it, Google will probably disregard the link and it shouldent make any difference.

Think logically, if a site could be ruined just from incoming links from adult material, any malicious webmaster could destroy another website (or competitor) quite easily. It would just be plain stupid for any search engine algorithm to work on that.

Legally speaking, anyone can link to your website.

What they can't do is steal content and/or iframe it (like google images) and/or cache it.

    Peace,
