Hello all. Just noticed my Motorcycling news site is #1 in MSN , #4 in Yahoo and #6 in Google. I wish i could achieve the same with all my other sites. Problem is,the keyword "motorcycling news" is not the best, but can't complain i suppose. Because it's a personal interest of mine, i can find other ways to get traffic without relying on the search engines. Plus it's not really a revenue earning site.
Thanks. Sorry I mean the title, motorcycle news would be better. .But this was the best TLD i could get.
Ranking well for a keyword is nice, but you want to make sure people actually are searching for it. According to overture, they average 0 searches a day for "motorcycling news"
Other than re-optimizing your site for "motorcycle news", or a different keyword that actually gets searched for, the only way to really increase your searches would be to spread the site through advertisements/word of mouth (in short, anything besides SEO) and hope that people will remember the name and search for it later on a SE, even if they dont visit your site directly from the ad or whatever. Not saying that will really work that well though - more than likely, the vast majority would just come from the ads/WoM themselves. But, hey, if it isn't for profit, just rely on free advertising or WoM mostly.
hmm.. I am curious! did you get actual business? does this helps you to find your potential customers?
Hi Jamesh 1, as you might know, keyword selection is among the first steps to take in having a successful website from all viewpoints. I think you still can do a lot of things, add some better keywords to your web pages and optimiza your web pages for them. Also create some link exchanges with some related websites with the new terms.
Thanks for your input. The keyword "motorcycle news" is a lot better so i am having that as the title tag, and have optimised my site for it. Is that ethical i.e being different to the url? and there already being another site with that title. One site which ranks high in google for the "motorcycle news" term does this.
It's ethical - I mean, your site is for news about motorcycles. Motercycle news and motorcycling news is the same thing basically. Now if your site was named "Shaving-Poodles.com", then maybe motorcycling news would be unappropriate. Unless you used a motorcycle to shave said poodle
