Okay, my site, www.Lucidly.com, has been up for a few days, not even close to finished (just the front page and a few other pages), and the alexa rank today was 45,662. It isn't a fluke either because the traffic has been increasing each day, it went like 200,000, 130,000, 80,000, 45,622. It wasn't even ranked a week ago. I know the alexa rank listed is about 1,000,000, but after the ranks are updated obviously my alexa rank will keep getting closer and closer to the 45,000 that it is now registering daily. I mean yesterday I had reached about 5 out of every million, and now I am reaching 25.

That is an image of the last 7 days of traffic for the top 4 dreaming websites on the entire web, and mine is the blue line. You can see I am already ahead of 3 of them and my site isn't even done! I think I have the best domain, of lucidly.com.

Please take a look at my site, and maybe some of my competitors sites (listed in the above picture), and if you could give me any suggestions for marketing. What should I do next. Because now that I know my site's traffic is probably going to be pretty high, I'd like to know what the best things for marketing would be? What would you recommend? If you had my site, what would you do to market it, and transitively make money off of it?

Is there any way I can get to PR 5 in a few months?

I was able to get my website's homepage (and 5 subpages) to pr 5 in about a month, so its possible. Good luck.

How did you market it? Was it free marketing or did you pay for it? I know people don't like sharing their strategies but I would be greatly appreciative.

Way to go... congrats on your site.
Alexa is not very relevant tool to show how your site is doing but is a good way to start. More important is the source of traffic, where is coming from, returning visitors, conversion etc. It would be interested to know exactly how old is your site and traffic stats and also where is the traffic coming from (did you use ads, links, SE, etc)

    Cheers!

I listed in one directory, most is coming from direct request though, or I guess stumbling into it through search engines. I haven't really done any marketing yet, the domain name is very good though, I obviously have the best domain for a dreaming site. Lucidity.com maybe rivals my domain strength. Anyways, I think now that people are seeing there is content on the domain they are coming. I don't know how to explain, but I am getting a lot of visitors already, about 100 uniques per day. And my site has been running off and on the past 5 days.

Anyways, what would you do to market it at this point? What would you recommend doing to get the PR up?

Link building and article submission! Post articles to related blogs and forums and maybe a little paid ad will be ok !

With article submission do you actually submit them somewhere or just post on your site?

Do you have the alexa toolbar installed? Or A9 toolbar?

When myself and a couple programmers are working on our site our alexa rank is awesome for those days. We all have the A9 or alexa toolbar installed so it is tracking our visits.

    Very easy to manipulate alexa.

Apologies if this is a noobish question as I'm not very familiar with Alexa rankings but will 100 uniques per day put you in the top 50,000?

I'm only guessing but I thought you would need much more traffic than that.

100 uniques a day will put you in the top 5 million..... maybe. It's a fluke and one that happens when you get a lot of webmaster traffic to a site.

Pay ZERO attention to your alexa ranking at this stage. With 100 uniques per day you should be at about 3 million.

I once maintained an alexa rank inside 60,000 with UNDER 100 uniques per day for 3 months with a site I used to have. By the way the picture I had isn't very relevant anymore because my site was down the past day so traffic stopped.

What does it matter what your alexa rank was with under 100 uniques? Do you even realize that all of the numbers you mentioned in the first post depend on how many visitors you have? Alexa "thinks" you have more than you do, it does not make your site any more valuable, trafficked, or anything else that matters. I would guess that you are infected with the alexaware that estimates visitors. Under 100 hits / day is in the millions as far as rank regardless of what the pretty graph says.

Edit: Like this statement "I mean yesterday I had reached about 5 out of every million, and now I am reaching 25."

Alexa just says you are. It goes 100% on how much traffic it is estimating you to have to come up with reach and rank. If they knew your real traffic the reach would show you the unflattering truth.

I understand, I always knew PR was a lot more important than Alexa rank, I just didn't know how unimportant alexa rank was.

If they all have the Alexa toolbar installed you'll probably end up much higher, if none of them do then you'll be in the millions.
