Hi, I have been hacked a couple of times and all dat. So I somewhat understand where you are coming from...

But..to cut to reality, legally, you can't do anything. Even if somehow you found out this guys IP, where he lives, his name, phone, picture ID, all that.

Lets say you submitted it to the FBI for example. They won't do anything.

From what I remember the police, fbi etc only care about hackers if you can prove that you have lost alot of revenue and or caused damages of at least $5,000.

Either way my man. Not much you can do. I'd seriously suggest if you have any info on him, and if he lives pretty close to you, drive over at the mans house and do what you can, but legally? No, not much you can do with hackers in my opinion. Patch your server up and if he does it again...DOSS him o_o(hey, sometimes you fight fire with fire, right?)

    You mean DDOS, right?

Anyways, I wouldn't suggest doing anything like driving to his house, etc, as then you might get in trouble.

Most hackers are from overseas or attack through other servers and hid their tracks. Its unlikely it would be someone that lives nearby you.

Usually not much you can do legally.

Not worth the authoritys time and effort tracking these people down.

If you wanna try you can go to the FBI

unless you can see who did it, how they did it its pointless reporting it. get a security analysis done to look for loopholes in your scripting

My site gets hacked on occasion and lately it was via a vbulletin hole where you can post clickable URLs in the subject line that work in VB and also if you syndicate your content elsewhere. It's a matter of dealing with this crap as it comes up and also getting a secure script so you have the least amount of hassle.

Unfortunately I find it common practice that US companies/people will pay a few bucks to poor people in India, the phillipines, etc. to commit all sorts of defacement, spam, etc. It's a real problem and can make you want to scream. Personally I think maybe bringing back caning in China might help with this problem, lol. The problem is that it is difficult to prove that the gambling sites put these people up to all of it.

I do plan on going after toospoiled.com, now that I found out they have a local office. Every day I get numerous posts from India and there is nothing that can be done except the usual process -- prune all posts by the user, ban the user's IP, ban the user permanently...

    Good luck.

It's not. It's a hole in vbulletin that allows you to paste URLs in the Title section. On certain CMSes, using the correct characters this will redirect the page showing the link because it will hit the browser to refresh and then redirect. Clever but a hole that has been closed with a hack at vbulletin.org. I can't imagine you won't see vbulletin v.3.6.1 out shortly.

So... Do you have a shell account?

I have found sooo many security problems just looking at my /var/log/secure

People mostly from china, india and what not trying to do get a root access, or ANY access through shell... So I moved it to another port and IP address... (I have a VPS)

Remember... "...supporting terrorism will brings suffer and deathness." lol

I have heard about this exploit where they can upload the index.html into your directory. I am thinking this is a exploit.

well the question is if they got shell or not...
normally what they do is they wait for the back up to record the site... then trigger the damn thing based on date...
that way if you restore the backup it will still trigger it.
