Soo.. I have a site. Lets say it deals with Cat Food. This is a fictitous keyword but its comparible to the one I am using. I've been using PPC to advertise, and now SEO. I've hired people to do all kinds of SEO. Directory submissions, blog text links, regular link building, social networking tagging, etc. etc. I am now ranking in the top for Premium Cat Food. I want to rank FOR Cat Food in the top ten because I see that via Adwords, I am getting MOST sales via the term Cat Food. My rankings have climbed, and I 've certainly almost dominated a few terms. ----- But today I was adding some more terms to my PPC account, and I was examining if my ads would show up whenver I'd add a new term/phrase. When doing this, I saw that many sites are ranking very high for longer-tailed phrases. Many of these sites really have no back links. It made me realize that what I REALLY need to work on is to add more content to my site, so therefore I can rank for longer tailed terms. What is the best way to go about doing this? Should I use the adwords keyword tool and try to create articles that utilize a lot of those terms? Should I write 1 article / term and place many articles on my site? What if I ad like 20 articles to my site. Will it ever reach a point where it is harmful? Also -- lets say one of my articles ranks high for a long-tail. Will the ARTICLE rank or can it ever rank my main page ? I'd prefer my main page to always get ranked, as it is the main sales page and I find it by far the most important. How can I get ranked so it shows like a little supplemental page? (the double ranking thing that many pages have -- you know -- where it indents part of another page off of the main page).. Thanks all Momo
Well. You want top ranking with keyword Cat Food right? There are 2 options: 1. You can bid higher for this keyword n come in top listing of Sponsored Links. 2. Write article related to Cat Food n post it in thousands of directories with the hyperlinked given to the keyword. Choice is yours. I hope you got the answer!
This is a nice case and well explained. To find long tail keywords you can use the tools you prefer (is it the adwords keyword tool or any other keyword tool which you find accurate (wordze, wordtracker etc).). The fact is that new articles will be able to rank for new keywords (the long tail you are actually targeting). An article with well done on-site optimization in a niche where the high ranking sites don't have any backlinks will not be hard to get it ranked. There are two ways I see you could rank these new articles in the SERPs. Interlink the new articles from the homepage (or from inner pages) Some inbound links pointing to your articles with your long-tail (and its variants if has any) keywords as anchor text. Shall a new page outrank the homepage? Quiet difficult but not impossible, but you should not forget that these articles you are creating is to create possibilities to rank for other keywords (long tail) and for your main keywords. What you can do is to use these articles as landing/sales page too without actually hurting the content (a call to action banner would work just fine). Getting double listing for non competitive (even for competitive) keywords is another story but not that hard to do. Lets say this long tail keyword you are targeting is Premium Cat Food, and you have created the perfect article to rank for that keyword, you have interlinked the homepage with the article page, you have already provided inbound links with your desired keywords to the article page. Now what you could do is interlink the article with the homepage by using your keyword as anchor text, as well as point some inbound links to the homepage for those keywords (note, the article page should have a higher number of inbound links with your targeted keywords as anchor text then the homepage). What I would tell you is that you should not worry if inner page outranks the homepage, but rather rank with all the pages possible but make sure even those "article" pages can serve as landing/sales page too. These are my 2 cents.
Is there evera point I could reach with articles / content on my site that would be harmful to my site? Or should I just add a load of content?
If you want to rank higher in Google search result, you need To make a keyword optimized article with rank for your targeted keyword. And if you want rank Higher to in PPC with that keyword, Make individual channel in your PPC for that keyword, and Choose the Destination Url directly to your keyword optimized Page, not your Homepage. I hope this could help you. Pm me if you need further details.
