In a world in which the young are getting more into the search engine world, and technology at whole I find it upsetting we still have boundary of age at places such as SES. As many know I own a search engine, and in fact I am very interested in search engines, however I still have to wait till I get older to get into SES. I would love to know on what foundation they they feel that under 18's should not be allowed in to such places. Does anyone know the reason for not allowing under 18s to pay and join? I am always interested in finding out more information about search engines, and I also feel I could at least be of interest to some people. I have always felt that 'teens' do not get enough freedom on the internet, and the world in whole. This may be due to the fact that some people in my age group find it fun to go and smash up some places and get pregnant however I feel that I am being stereotyped as a idiot who enjoys doing these things. I don't know the reason behind the age 18 thing in SES, and many other of the EXPOs but I have emailed them awaiting comments on this area. However if this age thing stays I very well in the next few years set up a expo for the up and coming web creators. If your young would you join such a event? And what would you expect from it?
18 == legal age, there are probably adult related things going on at the event. I went to E3 a few years ago and it was 18+ (and for good reason).
Its SES, I can not see what can be over 18. Drink granted, however any bar can do a quick id check. I just feel like I am missing out, I certainly would not mind paying the odd 700 Quid to get in...
They're probs just scared that younger people like me might intimidate the older and more experienced with their vast intelligence. But, yeah, I wish I was 18.
It's also to set a certain prestige. They wouldn't want 12 year olds running around so it's just as easy to set it to 18 and have that at the minimum. If they were going anything else like that, they may set it to 21, but 18 is the legal age so that's where its set at.
John, are you trying to make me want to get in even more or what? Im 16 for christ sake, you cant say stuff like that to me and expect me to think 'oh it's good that I cant get in'
Seriously, it's not that educational. Just more of a social event where you get together with friends and have some drinks. The parties are the fun part, but if you don't know other people who are going I doubt it would be much fun.
There is a lot of language and content that could be considered adult. Even at the Calcanis keynote he droped the f bomb twice and said shit a few times also. I think 18+ just covers incisive medias ass.
The problem is, I do know many of the people who go and It would of been a nice way to met up with them. Then again so is life at 16. And language? Is that still a excuse ANYWHERE. Todays teens go to hischool and well, come on..
2 years isn't long, can't believe i've been in china for 3 already. A big part is likely covering their ass as shoemoney says. Another is dignity of the event, how many companies would send their employees to an expo overran with teenagers?
Problem is, alot of these companys need to see lots of the profit they make does indeed come from 'teenagers', I alone spent 700 quid on Adsense last month, not that much but its more than some of the older generations spend.
I wanted to say this before and I hope it doesnt come off wrong but it comes off as it comes off.. Why do you care about se conferences... I mean im 30 years old and hit them all and If i could trade ages with you I definatly would give a crap about computers or internet Go chase some tail and party till you drop
