I had uninstalled my windows xp a few days back and installed windows 7. However today i realise that my HP Deskjet 3745 printer driver is not compatible with windows 7 :( . This means that I will have 2 uninstall win 7 and reinstall XP. Has anybody faced similar problems. Would like to hear from you.

I am sure that if you download an updated driver it will work. Visit hp.com (man this domain must have been expensive :) )

As suggested, you can always download the compatible version of the driver from HP's official site or from any trusted source....just try to google or bing it!

Hi thankx for the replies ppl...but then I did visit the site and unfortunately there are no compatible drivers for win 7.

@ pcz: the domain probably was registered by HP itself bfore anybody else;). I mean with their history and legacy i think it is very much likely...but if u want to buy the domain now...yeah could be a little expensive :D .

@ rightman: I already googled it. Now i'll bing it. Thnkx for reminding .

I think Windows 7 is still in beta version so you may not get the printer driver for Windows 7.

My Printer ( 3745 ) was Detected by 7 and installed correctly.
However my problem is setting it as the default printer.
It is the only printer atached to this pc.
In Printers it shows about Four, the other 3 are just Ms Office printers.
I can select any of those as the default printer, but not the 3745.
I even deleted the other 3 which left the 3745.
You can highlight it but ( set as default ) is greyed out.
    As a result I can't print anything.
Before I deleted the office printers, when I went to print something it would go to the default printer, which of course is useless.
    Can someone help with this.
    John

i has problem with sound driver when i use windows 7 before. then i try to install vista driver and it's work properly now. i thing you should do that too. go to device manager then choose your driver and then choose advance (something like that) and choose manualy. try to change the driver . if windows give some warning just ignore that.

Besides the HP website, Windows Update usually detects obsolete drivers and offer an update from the manufacturer. Happened to me a few days ago with a DELL driver.

Most of the HP drivers are included in Microsoft's website for Windows 7. But unlike Windows XP, all the drivers are not inbuilt in Windows 7. For you to download the drivers from Microsoft's website, you need to download them using the Windows update. Procedure is as follows -
    1. Connect your printer to your computer and switch it ON.
    2. Once you have completed Step 1 (very important to complete step one), with the printer is ON state, again try checking for Windows update.
    3. You will notice Windows update showing some new driver updates now.
    4. Download the updates.
    5. The printer drive gets installed automatically.
    6. You are ready to print now buddy!
    7. The same procedure applies to Windows 2008 R2 as well!

Some hardware device drivers are not compatible with Windows 7, and the hardware vendors do not release updated drivers, which renders the hardware unusable.
If you have tried to update the printer driver but still getting no solution, then follow the given instructions: Try and add the device manually within Windows 7. Click Start > Control Panel > Devices and Printers, then select the "Add a Printer" link from the top of the Devices and Printers window. Look for your printer in the list. Windows 7 may natively support your printer without the need for a driver CD.
