I'm up to a PR6 on some internal pages. My index page is a PR5 still. Google traffic is up as well. I have not bought nor sold links and the site is run very much in keeping with Google's rules. I am now quite glad I turned down an offer of paid links a few months ago ... -- Leva
Re: domain name helping -- yes and no. I lost a point several months ago. I have issues with sites unrelated to the content accidentally linking to me when they mean to link to Mozilla. I suspect Google assesses a penalty for "unrelated content" links. I was a very strong PR6 until iirc February or so, then dropped to a PR5. And I've been stuck at a PR5 since despite multiple thousands of new valid links that were "on topic" (including three PR8s that I know of) plus extensive site growth. One thing I've found suspicious about Google's ranking of the site -- if you do a search in google for link:firefox.org-- the results show a few hundred links, none of which are related to the site. Prior to my losing PR in February, I had thousands of links showing. If you look at the site in Yahoo or even Technorati, many more links show and I'd guess at least 3/4ths of them are actually related to the content and not people confusing my site with Mozilla's. *shrug* I've just kept plugging away and playing by the rules. I figured there wasn't much I could do about Google's algorithm or manual penalties and the best thing I could do was simply make a good site that people want to visit. -- Leva
googles link search function has only reported a small %age for quite some time now. It is basically useless. Doesnt mean they don't count other ones though. I think they're trying to discourage people from searching and posting their links where their competitors do.
I had heard that you did if it was an extensive amount. *shrug* And I had no other real explanation for the site's pr to go down. At any rate, I'm happy that the rank went back up ...
Good job with the update. I had about 4 domains go from either a PR0 to a PR1 or a PR0 to a PR3...Loving it
