My Placement In Engines Not Growing

Hi my search engine placement for my site is not growing even though i have more backlink's than my competition, a even page rank and also similar content.

I am not a professional at SEO but i would like to know if there are thing i could be doing wrong to negatively affect my ranking.

Also is it just a matter of having more backlink's or should i always make sure my title is in my backlink's etc.

Any advice greatly appreciated.
