What determines the Size of a PDF file, when you produce it using Office.org or other PDF programs?

the amount of pages in the PDF?

or the amount of pictures/jpegs in the file?

the size of the Jpeg pictures in the PDF ?

    other things?

+ If i wanted to have 3 pdfs made, All being 6 pages in length...... how can i make sure that they are different file sizes? - i want 3 PDFs of equal pages made, but their file sizes to be different.

I find that it is the image quality(whether that be .jpeg or .png) or size and also, if your creating it with a pretty hefty amount of type then that will also add to the size.

I find creating it in InDesign keeps the file size down.

You may also want to consider taking the images into photoshop or similar and exporting them to the size you want them, rather than taking them straight into office.org or so on. This will keep the file size down.

Don't forget links and other actions within the .pdf will also increase the file size.

Not only can you do what baker2D says but you can also use photoshop to create your pdf file, I find that most of what you have memtioned effects the image size but mainly the content.

Indesign is definately the best program to use if you are looking at keeping your file size down. Indesign is made for this kind of work.

There's actually quite a few things that will affect the overall size of your PDFs. The quantity and quality of the images, as already mentioned, will produce possibly the most obvious change, with vector images scoring best when it comes to their compression.

One other element is actually the amount of fonts that you use. Each additional font will increase the size of your PDF so keep it to a minimum if you're looking to reduce the size of your PDFs.

If you're looking to create three PDFs of six pages but want them to be different sizes then I would suggest using different quality of images within them (for example using bitmap images will dramatically increase the size), using additional fonts, and perhaps even use grayscale images for one if color isn't essential as this can also reduce the overall size.

    Hope that helps,

In my experience, the size and the quality of the pictures/ image will determine the file size.
We can do trial on the content size and quality to check it.
