Memtest86 should do the trick. When you need to test your memory, (ie. RAM), this nifty free program will reveal if you have faulty memory sticks or not. Post back here with your results.
no tool as far as I can remember. the symptoms that restarts that's usually the indicator. try using another memory and replace the old one then check if it still restarts. trial and replace method
Well, not actually offering a solution, just summing up those from the others: 1)Clean your RAM and check to make sure that it's working. If it's not and you can't fix it, then replace it. 2)Clean and check any other vital hardware, such as your hard drive, CPU, and power supply, and fix problem hardware if humanly possible. (yourself or a service) 3)Make sure that your registry isn't faulty, and also that you do not have a virus. 4)If the problem continues, reinstall or do a repair install of your OS using a CD if you have it. 5)I made this one up because it's obvious. If you've done all those (which are each quite extreme), and it's STILL not working, you should probably either use a warranty, return it, or call in some professionals to fix it.
This could be a number of problems, from ram, to bag power(try changing the outlet its plugged into), the power supply, or simply the windows installation itself, one of the drivers installed could be incorrect and that could be causing this whole thing. Try all of those scenarios.
Had a brand new Dell XPS M1530 laptop with this issue. Just thought it was Vista and then found that Dell wanted to replace the HDD. All fine since they did that.
I think the service pack which you are using is not STABLE! to use on Kindly install SP2 for better outputs
We had seen a virus in 2006-07 that used to get windows restarted. See if any online virus scanning can help you (provided your pc doesn't restart in the meantime though
I totally agree, this definitely sounds like a RAM issue. Re-install your RAM (take it out, put it back in). If this doesnt work, it sounds like your RAM is dying.
SP 3 has been known to have issues - I'm not sure about the restarting suddenly though. Like the others said ... try cleaning and reseating your RAM - but I need to ask - did you add anything to your system - and by this I mean hardware. If you added a new hardrive - or new video card - chances are your powersupply is short of power - especially if you are still using the original one (I'm assuming your system is at least 2 years old). Power supplies aren't stable - their output gets less as time goes by - and it happens faster if it was just barely enough. Best thing to do - if you're not sure and don't want to dig around inside your box, take it to a shop or call up a friend who is knowledgable about computers. I'm not 100% convinced that your RAM is the problem, but it never hurts to check.
Windows XP service pack 3 is always crashing at my side . Here , periodically it shows that your system.config file is missing and each time i have to reinstall the software. Windows XP SP2 is better & n your case i think its some kinda malware .
If there is some problem with your RAM , light in front of your Screen will start blinking with nothing on it .
Yes, that may be the problem. I use tune up 2008 software to fix my registry problems and all other computer problems. This program is great cause it has saved me a lot of time and energy by doing all the tasks automatically
I used to have such a problem. Turned out to be a problem with the Internal Fan on the processor. Got it replaced and everything is perfect ever since. Get a local computer engineer to inspect your computer. Only he can tell you best. Bhavik.
