I don't know if this is funny or not, but like yesterday i made a french paypal adress with 0 $. And today it gets phished. Luckily no damage was done, but i can't belive i just fell for it. Like i received a e-mail from paypail.com ( i didn't paid attention to it) to an e-mail that i didn't specify in any paypal form ( should have thought of it). The message was like, some tried to violete your account from IP xxx.xxx.xxxx.xxxx. Click the bellow link to confirm your not away or we will lock your paypal within 3 days. Obviously i clicked it, next thing i know i receive an email at my the address i've registered my paypal notifying me that my password and security questions have been changed. No damage was done, but i lost my account and i can't help wondering how many poor people lost their account this way, thousands of $$$. Hope this will make some people think twice before opening their paypal email, i know i will.
The damned phishers have gotten so good that I don't even respond when I can't figure out that it is phished. Best advice in all cases is to login to your account wherever. If the mail was real, you will get some kind of notice. Sorry for your problems.
If they accessed you account there is a good chance they got a hold of your credit card, bank account information, and address since they can access that info just by loggin into your account. It would be a very good idea to notify those financial institutions and pay for a monthly identity theft service.
you don´t get any full info from the profile. only the last 4-digits of a credit card and the same for bank details. there is no use for the info inside. eveything possible would be a change of the adress but this would notify the paypal account holder.
I think police should investigate ore this financial scams. Here in my country people buy hotel rooms from internet and they go and find there isnt such hotel... Scammers everywhere nowadays...
I dont ready any email that comes from paypal or other payment processors that say my account has a problem or something, I just immediately delete it.
you are just more than lucky. one of my friend lost 750$ this way.if you inside of USA use paypal mobile for more security purpose
It is best to just log into any account you get an email from not just paypal. This has been happening for years now and many warnings have been posted about clicking links from an email. Just run your mouse over the link and you can see if it is legit. Unless you are brand new to the Internet, most people should be aware of these things by now.
I have seen a lot of users having the same problem and i think its the best way not to click on any link in any email and always to login into ur account and then do what ever u r asked to.Thx Regards: SAM
It looked really legit and I'm a total newb to paypal and payment processors, so i fell for it. No harm was done, at least not in my case, i know a lot of people suffered from well applied phishing tactics.
Whenever I get an email from "paypal", first thing I do is hover over the links to find out their actual target - its not difficult to tell. Similarly checking the headers etc will tell you right away whether its fake or not. However the simplest way to know whether its a scam is to log into your paypal account directly; same goes for any dubious emails from ebay etc. Despite this; even the most prudent of people can be phished. The course i'm studying at uni includes a computer forensics model and in the very first day the lecturer "phished" us all... he gave us a form to fill in which asked for a load of personal details; since this was in the first week or term I guess we just assumed it was yet another necessary piece of paperwork so we just completed it - after which we received a long lecture about the sort of things he could do with the info we'd just given me. I consider myself to be very prudent, and I still fell for it - so it just goes to show how important it is to be wary of anything like this on the internet.
The only way we will get rid of phishers is when those idiots out there stop falling for their scams and clicking on email links
I think you gotta chill on using the word "like" . Now they do their job. THey are hackers, thieves, and whatever but its your responsibility to not get phished. That's why I don't even take a look inside the email if i don't recognize the title.
