You means you link out to other sites? If yes, just to make sure the out link from your site be a legit site, otherwise you ranking will be penalized.
Well at one stage its good to have high page rank for your site. But its only view the importance of your site in google, and in ranking its doesn't matter where your site is pr6 or pr0. Don't worry so much for your site pr, just do quality link building. And the reason behind your site page rank goes down it can be bad backlink (Low Quality Backlinks) that effected your site page rank.
