My number of pages indexed in Google has recently dropped like a stone and I'm puzzled. I purchased the site a while ago. The site was clean with OK backlinks. Google was showing 150K indexed pages which was actually false, as there's only about 32K pages. When I bought the site we moved servers and ended up with the 32K pages as static HTML pages (long story ). I noticed my weight had dropped substantially, when I checked, the number of indexed pages has dropped to just over 9K. I don't think the backlinks have really changed, they were for the most part pretty clean and stable. And the PR of the site seems mostly unchanged, front page with a PR4 (unchanged) and lots of internal pages with PR4 or so as well. Any thoughts on what's happened? Or how to get my pages indexed up again?
It's a directory site. Most of the pages should be unique I would think. Googleing the site doesn't show the ugly 'some pages were omitted' message that indicates the pages are not unique amongst the site itself. And I would assume that it's not a dupe problem with offsite content.
I've had that problem recently too. It's usually because of duplicate content. Make sure your pages have different content and they should come back.
