This may be paranoia but I have a new site that I am trying to get Google to like. I have been running it for a few weeks: http://blogaboutanimals.com Now, Google has indexed the home page twice now and both times it has dropped out of the index a few days after. If you type blogaboutanimals.com into Google it returns 100 search results with sites mentioning the URL so I think I am doing ok with linking. Is this kind of thing normal and should I just wait a few more weeks and carry on blogging as normal? I have submitted it to Google for crawling, the robots.txt is set to allow all and a newer blog, set up on the same shared hosting account is already in the index! Basically I am confused. Sorry if I sound dumb!!
for a start, your pages show ALL links as "no follow" in firefox ... a bit odd, did you mean to do that to your internal page links ? your main page has <meta name='robots' content='noindex, nofollow' />
Google is reshuffling it's SERP's big time the past few days. my sites have been bouncing around also
It is perfectly noraml for sites to behave this way in the search engines. Mainly with google. Just give it some time and build good links, in time the ranking for your domain name will settle and hold it's spot. Just make sure you are not over doing things in terms of your seo tatics.
Thanks guys.... I am going to look into this nofollow thing and see what is going on! I didn't set anything up like that... As for seo tactics I am not using them on this site too much right now. Just tusing Micro Niche Finder (works great on my other sites) o target some decent keyword titles for posts.
I think it was All in One SEO plugin causing my nofollow problem.... but I have turned it off and now my meta is still nofollow. Does anyone know how to amend this?
Ok I got it sorted..... I noticed that all of my sites that had Worpress 2.5 installed using GoDaddy Hosting Connection were having extreme problems getting indexed by Google. So I looked into it and it appears that these installations all had the Wordpress privacy settings to private, stop search engines from indexing the site!!! So for anyone else that this is happening too. Log into wp-admin. Go to settings>privacy and make sure that you are set to be visible by the search engines. I feel like an idiot. At least I have some content for Google to index now. Thanks so much for your help. I was planning on waiting a few more weeks before worrying but I am glad I did now!
