My New Project: Giving Back / Paying It Forward

For quite some time now I've wanted to do some kind of major project that gives back to the community somehow. Today I finally figured out how I would do it with a new website.

This website has the following strategic goals (in this order):

    1. To pay forward all profits of the project to charity, I will not make a single penny out of this.
    2. To create a positive impact on the world, rather than just trying to make money online.
    3. To provide a unique way of giving back to online merchants and affiliate marketers (in theory at least, I'm still working out the kinks of this part)
    4. To teach newbie internet marketers various techniques and strategies to market a website.
    5. To use Web 2.0 technologies and hopefully the talents of many skilled people to create something unique.
    6. To provide 100% transparency on the project (or close to it). Alot of charitable operations are not transparent, which makes it difficult to see how much they really are doing.

I'm putting the information together over the next few days, but I can already tell that I'm going to need help with this. The potential for the site is huge, and I'm concerned that I may not be able to do it all on my own.

So this is an unofficial check to see if anybody would be interested in working on the project described above. Before you say yes though, please bear in mind #1 above - working on this project will not directly make you any profit. This is a chance for you to give back to the people who most need it.

Taking any interest at this point will not count as you committing to working on the project. It is just a brief measure of interest from DP members for the time being.

I will have more details shortly, as I put it all into a project plan, but I would appreciate knowing who would be interested at this point.

Some of the things you mention are still a bit vague aren't they?
    Creating something unique, like what?

But all in all, giving to charity is a very nice idea. But maybe you should consider giving like 50 or 75 percent of the profits to charity, that way you can increase your business and give even more to charity.

For the time being I have to keep it vague until I get a formalized business plan done (which I'm working on and should be finished within the next 48 hours hopefully). The other reason for keeping this vauge is that I can see alot of potential here for a business enterprise. I don't see it growing into the monster that Facebook or YouTube or any of those other sites, but I can definately see this generating 7+ figures annually.

The company is going to be setup as a non-profit organization. I have already started going through this, but it takes about 12-18 months to get through the entire thing because there are special laws and circumstances for NPO's (multiple government audits, reports, and about a hundred different hoops to jump through before you are an accredited tax-exempt non-profit organization).

From an purely SEO perspective, I can easily get government and .edu backlinks for this project, which will be really cool.

I know I'm severely limiting the information right now, but I don't want to formally announce anything until I have it planned out in a proper business plan. The goal with posting this project here was to just see if anybody would be interested in using their internet marketing skills for a greater purpose.

I do apologize for the vagueness, there's not much I can do about it at this point without forcing you to sign an NDA, and I'm not big on that option.
