My MSN rank plummeted

    For 10 years now I have ranked in the top 4 sites for my niche web site, and normally #1. Two days ago I could not find my site in the first 20 pages! Yesterday I spoke to my GF in Houston (I am in Ohio) and she did a search and I was still #1. Today both of us searched again, and I was not to be found.

    I have made no changes in a few weeks, however last week my server went down for about 6 hours. This said though I have several other websites on the same server that were down and they did not lose their rank.

    Any ideas?:(

    MSN has been known to do this kind of stuff before..I've had site's in top positions that have dropped..then like a week later - they're back. as for the exact reason why, I'm not sure..I'd still like to know that myself!

    I was chewing my nails up to my knuckles, and pulling my gray hair out. Thanks for the info that I am not the only one to have this happen:)

    This happened to me in fact, however it reappeared after about a week. I was #1 for one of my phrases.

    Hang tight for two to three weeks. I had a website missing for three weeks in MSN and then all of a sudden it came back. I did not want to mess with its code because the Google position was not changing.

    Well I am not touching anything either as I am in the top 4 on AOL, Google, and Yahoo. Here is something strange though...last night I checked again and I was #1 again.....this morning I am not in the first 50 pages. Obviously MSN is designed as well as Windoze....maybe this is a Vista version:D

    It is killing my Adsense though, so many losers out there don't know how to change the default MSN.com startup page in their browser that they use this. The people who use Google tend to be a bit more savvy and don't click on the adsense links as much. At least that is my theory

    nope, definately not the only one as it's been happening to me lately as well.

    non-existant->5th->75th->2nd->non-existant->10th (currently)

    One of the sites I work on was doing great on MSN since the last few months. Its a big site and has around 3000 uniques everyday. And recently, the rankings on MSN dropped. Many new sites are coming in rankings on top positions, most of them small sites doing lots of spamming and keywords filled URLs. Hope it is fixed soon.

    I've seen the same thing with MSN too. Some spam some sites that are not spam but without any SEO making into the top of the rankings...

    I've checked different of the sites backlinks... and couldn't determine how they made it up there... not by copywriting either...

    Think that MSN places a lot of weight on the domain name having the words for the search...

    Although, as you've mentioned... definitely have noticed on MSN big fluctuations in my site rank for certain terms.

    Well it just keeps getting stranger. In the past 3 to 4 days I have been #1 to not even being listed, several times a day! Last night I went to bed did not even show up in 100 PAGES! This morning I was back to #1, now I don't show up at all.....again. What is very strange is that the listings below me, say #2, #3, #4, etc move up one spot when I dissapear, then move down one spot when I show up. They never totally dissapear like I do. What the hell causes that

    MSN is weird. I started a site about a month ago and made it to the #1 spot for a sports related keyword. The thing is I only have 1 page indexed in MSN.

    I also have seen the jumping in and out for no apparent reason and with no major changes made to the site itself.
