My mom is off her rocker!

In 1991 we got two cats, Kiki and Boots. In the fall of 1993, Boots and several neighbors' cats all went missing.. we never figured out why but just assumed that coyotes got them or something. Anyway, there is a cat at my mom's door right now and she called me up saying that Boots finally came home. I tried telling her that it wasn't her cat, probably just the neighbor's or a stray but she's feeding her right now.

Ok, I mean think about it.. the cats name was boots so obviously it was black with white paws. There are tons of black cats with white paws.

Anyone in your family off their rocker?

The cat would be 16 years old and has been missing for 14 years.

If i were you i wouldn't let her down and tell her it's not "Boots".
She must've had it in her mind all that time to remember it after all that time and believe that it's the same cat , so she seem to be happy about having it back.keep her happy :D.

Maybe she really misses the cat. I think it is better to say a little white lie.

Well, it would seem unlikely to be the same cat returning after all this time, but you never know! Friends of mine had a cat walk hundreds of kilometres back home after it accidentally got left somewhere far away. It wasn't 14 years later... only a few months... but animals can do some amazing things! And cats can certainly live that long- mine is almost 18 and still going well.

sorry,i doubt it.Nevermind the fact its been gone 14 years, the fact cats rarely live to that age(correct me if im wrong)pitty really would be an amazing story-why not take it to the vets see how old it is?

    two words: DNA testing ;)
I mean you want to be sure right :p

It's possible for pets to return years later but not > a decade (IMO)!!

My dad explained to her that it wasn't her cat so she let it go. It hasn't come back and is healthy so it probably has a home.
