i run a zippo lighter site and would like to attract more visitors to my site by giving a free zippo to the winner of a competion and maybe hold a monthly comp to attract return visitors

Heres my problem.....what competion should i hold?

So what i would like to do if its ok with the forum, is ask for DP members to submit ideas to this thread for an idea on a competion for a zippo lighter.

Then the DP members can post a comment on which idea they like the best and i will give the DP member whose idea i use a free zippo lighter ( including postage ) for their time.

Does this sound like a good marketing idea

I'd say the ideal competition would be something that encourages the users to build some content for you, such as a video competition. Something like - the most creative way to get rid of your old lighter.

 

How about the largest flame produced from a fart video submissions? Just make sure you put a disclaimer in there.

 

How about the most acres of forest burned down by a fire started by a zippo lighter video contest...

 

VERY classy.......I think that you should have a competition of who can do the coolest thing with their zippo (have people submit video or pictures)

 

Ask how long they can keep the zippo lit before it burns them

i was thinking videos but there are so many of the same tricks out there

i dedcided to close store a few days out from christmas so i could guarantee the customer they would receive item before christmas. Last year i was getting orders 2 days out from christmas asking if they could get it so they could give it a as present. by time payment cleared there was no way i could do this. i believe looking after customers and future customers is important.

Also i have been adjusting a few things on my site before submitting it here for review. And i needed to change a few things after reading all the top advice i have received from DP members.

Video is overkill, you need something that's simple and fun. Like a montly question about zippos. This is what I have in mind.

People that visit your site are obviously interested in zippos, so you begin by telling them a fun fact about zippo lighters. Check Wikipedia or whatever. Then you ask an entertaining question and the price goes to the person that gives you the funniest answer, not the correct answer. Next month you display this months winning answer.

E.g.
In the movie CoolActionMovie, CoolActionHero used a zippo that had previously been used by Slash, guitarist of Guns n Roses. This months question is: what food will be consumed by Axl Rose on Christmas Eve?

Or something.

 

I would do a competition on this forum. Give out 20 zippos and make people provide you with a PR2 or higher link in order to enter. I've seen other sites do this and they got tons of backlinks.

 

Id have people do a video of their zippo collection or something. Showing or their favorite ones or most unique.

make a competition where people sign up giving you there email address.

Winner is picked out of a hat!

This then means, you have a big list of emails in which you can use to send out offers etc getting hits back to your site.
