Generally, most mail sent by scripts will end up in the spam folder or are automatically removed if you configure your email account to automatically delete spam. This does not occur for well-known sites.

You can however mark them as not spam to reduce the chances of mail sent by scripts from appearing as spam.

This is a common problem. I think the best thing to do is make sure you do everything you can to ensure you have your system configured properly.

    1) check the hostname on the box.
    2) does the hostname have a dns entry
    3) does the reverse entry for the ip show the hostname
    4) do you have a spf record set for the domain
    5) do you have domain keys set properly.
    6) check the spam database lookup over at dnsstuff dot com and see if the isp gave you a bad ip that may have already been banned.
    7) make sure your reply to and from address are valid emails
    8) ensure your incoming smtp is working incase the receiver does a call back.

Why are you sending mail to yahoo, gmail, hotmail, are you operating a mailing list? if so, ensure that you are removing all of your bounces, and honor all removal requests (preferably via a one click link in your emails).

Sebastian is right on the money.

When email is properly configured, thousands of emails a day to the big isp's is perfectly achievable.

There will always be the uninformed users who sign up with email addresses requiring responses to automated requests for manual verification. This is their privilege.

Our policy is to ignore automated requests for manual verification to discourage the spread of such mechanisms.
