Yes, but that takes many, many months. You've already switched your approach twice, so I doubt you can stick with writing articles for weeks on end without getting bored and abandoning it.

Also, you need to think about how you will monetize the site. When I was younger I made plenty of websites about fast & tuned cars, but those aren't a great way of making much money.

 

Yeah, maybe I won't be able to. But, I have been writing over 200 articles a month for the past year or for a website I am an editor on and also freelancing. I have stopped freelancing for now and I am going to start writing more and more spending all my time on my site.

To monetize it, there are ways... you just have to research, be creative, and have patience. I already found enough banners and advertisers to generate the income I want to earn per month of the site, so all I have to worry about is getting more visitors. I know there are no direct sales, except for some simple stuff on amazon or maybe adding on a performance part affiliate store from a couple sites I know. There are ways... It's just going to take some time and writing.

I found a site similar but for muscle cars who writes just like I have been and he is making above my goal every month, and he offered to help me out once I get content.

Until then, maybe my Google ads will get some clicks and I can make some money until I get it going more.

I have some money and I already have secure income from editing online, so this is just my fun free-time project. Since I am in college.... I sure do have a ton of time on my hands in between exams, which I finish up tomorrow and won't have them again for another month or so..

I heard any site can earn revenue, as long as you have a crowd. So, "why not give it a try?" is my theory and I am just going to make it go! haha

I run and manage a couple email list with around 30k subscribers. First off I can tell you all that your working at a 1x or less multiplier, which means your working as hard as the value of the return or less. Email marketing is great, because you can sell others on advertising in your newsletter ("at the top in plain text"). I have list with just 3k in them and sell a 75 word max text ad for $300-$400 a pop, four times a month, but as a beginners you all could sell them easy for around $20 buck a pop.

Writing articles are a long slow roads to broke IMO. I know most people like them, but IMO its to much work for the amount returned. You need to look at leveraging items to grow your success.

For example you can use a keyword research tool (I use Wordze), and find keywords that are long tail and use CPC or some very basic SEO to target keywords like "how to make the keyword rich website for google adsense" (Est traffic 79 hits a month). Pump the users into your guide, and with Aweber use that to sell them on whatever you want, or just sell advertising in the newsletters.

Another basic idea is to start a newsletter and give away free ebooks to anyone that subscribes. You can team up with other programs that are giving away something that will pay you for the referral to their ebook or whatever. You can find lots of people on forums like DP that would join just to get free cr*p.

Just them two above is one 10th the amount of work you two already put into writing all that content, and with the 2nd one I could have a couple thousand subscribers within a week or two.

Yes, you can develop a site first and then work on revenue. But it's a lot more efficient to figure out a business model first and then develop a website to fit those goals.

 

Hey Michael, one question.

Have you used traffic exchanges yet? If not, I recommend easyhits4u.com. It has over 125,000 members is EXTREMELY hyperactive. I get 400-600 unique visits a day from just this one exchange. Just don't promote a sales page, but a squeeze page would be awesome to promote if the squeeze page is set up properly. Oh, and this is just my personal opinion, but I find article writing a complete waste of time, unless you have the money to outsource it to others.

well I must note or two things - first of, the path to IM success is that you work and work and keep motivating yourself. Well thats one thing, but other - more to the point thing is that YOU ARE KILLING YOUR LIST - although im not on the list to see what you write, but lets face it, people tend to read one or two emails - they have a hunch that there is some money involved and they jump out, therefor I would try to sell something from the 3rd or so email.

Also, why do you try to sell something? Why wont you use CPA?? By this time you should already have some money and this should be from eZine articles already

wow its been ages since I last posted on this thread. So what has happened ? I've just finished university on 1st of May and handed in my final year dissertation! Phew, been studying too long!

Before I left this thread, I said I would put my adventures on hold and would come back to it. At the time, my business model was to write articles and aim to build a list that would generate me $500 per month. So how much have I made since then ? Zilch, nothing, nada! Why you might say.

I had to look back at my model and come to think of it, nearly all of my articles were about internet marketing but there wasn't an exact path. I was just merely writing articles and hoping someone would opt in to my list. I probably built the list to about 290 subs or so. I was slowing trying to build a relationship with my subs through my newsletters (emails) and then make recommendations and you know what. I still made nothing. During this time I still had to complete my dissertation and was still paying the monthly fee for aweber and was barely using it. So some money was being thrown away.

I got kinda carried away and purchased another make money online ebook for $7 and this was to do with setting up a blog and finding low comp keywords. Write articles for that keyword and doing SEO for that keyword. Again, I failed at this.

Until my break came. No more make money online niches! I have moved away from the make money online niche as I'm kinda sick of it. I followed another method by another marketer and with hard work and after about 30 days. I now rank number 1 for a buying keyword (physical product) £130 on Google.co.uk and 4-5 spot on Google.com. The product is from amazon.com.

So what I have now is a website that ranks number 1 and 2 (indented) in google on 1st page that gets about 4000 searches per month (Google keyword tool) for a buying keyword since yesterday. I've yet to make any sales but this is the start of something new. It's only a matter of time till the first sales comes through. I've been getting SE traffic today and this should be good.

It's taken hard work to get there, many sleepless nights. What have you been up to ?

Emailing UNKNOWN people is considered SPAM.
The only productive way to email people is a tell a friend service that users will use to invite their friends to join/visit your website. This is legal, very productive and you will exponentially increase your website traffic.

Thank you for your comments. Things have been going well. I'm a better marketer than ever. My model is creating small niches affiliate sites and getting traffic via SEO. I have a few sites that rank very high (few at #1) that creates me cash. How is everyone else doing ?
