Thinking back, one thing I noticed about myself when I first started was that I was too concerned with

    "this template doesnt look good"
    "does not look right"
"opt in box is abit wonky"
All the traits of a perfectionist.

I did that today actually. I was trying to choose a template but I was taking forever. I couldn't make up my mind and then it struck me. I said to myself

"your worrying and spending too much time on things that don't matter"

Kinda kicked me into gear. If there anything that I've learned is forget he riff raff and do the things that matter like writing the articles, create vids and upload etc

    congrats on reaching 34 subscribers.

When will you send your first email to your list? (ie when you hit 50 subscribers or 100 etc)
What content will be in that first email ? (free video free ebooks reports or something else?)

Gonna start tommorow. Im gonna plan to do follow ups after 2 days. then 3-4 days later and then plan to email them probably once a week after that. This is my first list ever so I'm going to take great care.

All subscribers are interested in gambling
(well the adwords ad was "How to gamble risk free")

Going to send them free betting systems a couple.
Talk about the industry abit and then gradually move them
into IM. I think it will work.

Just a quick update today. I wrote 3 extra articles all submitted to ezinearticles. 4 of the 16 articles are in the final stages of review so I’m looking forward to seeing traffic to my squeeze page. Email list has grown to 40 subsribers (bearing in mind this is at a cost) I know for sure some of the sign ups is from adwords. The account originally had £35 in it. I’ve already used up about £17.00 of it which means for the remaining amount I would estimate another 40 signups. I’ve written some follow up messages. The first message is to go out 2 days after sign up and then another one 4 days after the first message. I’m sending free information to get this relationship going. Signed up to stumbleupon and stumbled my own website. Let see if this work. Am monitoring my statcounter to see if it will produce hits.

I’m in a routine now. Minimum of 2 articles per day.

    Date: 13/02/2009
    Email list Today: 40
    Articles Written Today: 3
    Total Articles written: 16
    Money made: $0

What did you do today ?

By followups you mean like a "thankyou for joining/subscribing" email ? to show you havent forgotten them.

regarding the gambling to IM thing..will you be using the gambling as example to your subs when you start the IM?
    I'm just confused.lol

How many hours are spending on this daily?

sorry for all questions..I'm naturally inquisitive. :)

As far as what i've achieved today..i've managed to fix the sidebar. I've yet to purchase some hosting so i can put up a live demo.
This next weeks goal(I might as well state it here) is to create 6wp themes (1 daily mon-sat) write around 10 articles day to sell and begin to organise and create content for my e-course membership sites i'm planning. sign up to aweber and create the landing pages and begin building my own email list.

I at least must do wp and articles.

yes the follow up is not to forget them and start building the relationship. for some reason it might take me up to 30 mins to write an article edit it etc dunno why I'm taking so long but time just flies. probably 3 hours or so.
sometimes I sit there trying to think what what to write.

having trouble thinking of a way to gradually move the suscriber to I'M. Theres a few gambling products I would promote but that's it that one guy has many gambling systems. I don't trust any other products so I'm going to have to transition then over very smoothly.

I hope you get your goals done!
    ask away no problem.

thanks for the clarification. I thought thats what follow up meant. Wanted to check. Good to know for when it comes time for me to start my list.

As far as how long it takes to write the article..if its in a niche thats not actually much interest to you you'll take longer.
I've been pondering what articles to rewrite(i have a tonne of plr) ..and unless its business i find it hard.
Getting the motivation to write is hard for me as well. I can write quite well..it just reminds me of my days back in highschool hahaha.
btw, i read somewhere lately to stop writer block just start writing.
For my assignments when i was doing my retail management course it was taking me 5hours to type 700words(although very organised and researched words)..i'm estimating I'll take around 30-60min an article to rewrite. -that is if i read it over and just type as i think kinda thing LOL

As far as your niche about gambling and the dilemma to move into IM..you could just milk the list in gambling niche and learn from it.and start over. To me it just seems like it would be stretching it to convert gamblers into internet marketers.
What i'm thinking of doing is do a "practise" list building project in a niche that i'm somewhat interested in and just learn...and that niche will be closely related to the e-course so getting conversions should be easy.

    Thanks. I hope..actually i must get them done. I got a $4000 debt to paid by march 5th or 10th..with no income.how fun-not.

Made it my mission to pump out 4 articles as I won't be able to write tommorow. 4 articles are still in final stages. The articles I've written are promoting an ebay package. I've set up an optin form and it will do follow ups right here.
    http://michael-nguyen.com/recommends/powerseller.html

I also set up a new facebook account with one of my free ebooks as the image. Looked for groups "make money online" went to a small group of about 123 members and added 5 people from within that group with a little message. Lets see if they accept.

To be honest nothing has really started yet until one article gets approved. Its been 7 days now so hopefully tommorow one should be live. It feels like a business now.

    Date: 13/02/2009
Email list Today: 43 (Maybe cause its a friday)
    Articles Written Today: 4
    Total Articles written: 20
    Money made: $0

onwards and upwards. What have you done today.

    :)
I've managed to start writing topic ideas for $7reports to sell and come up with ideas for ebooks. I'm tempted to just bundle it all into an ecourse rather than just $7 ebooks/reports. I'll have to figure it out.
I've also started to write out some bullet points for an ebook.
I was going to purchase webhosting ,instead while i'm this surge of creativity i'll pump out 5 articles to sell which can pay for the webhosting.
I've decided to start creating my list sooner than later. I'll use the first ebook or report i sell to collect emails.
(eg,before purchase you gotta give me ur name and email) . I figure this should work ok. If the person wants the ebook bad enough then they'll want my other info products.
I still don't know if i can be bothered writing articles everyday to promote my list. I guess it'll get easier.

btw,if your using your list as a case study for your dissertation project, when i get mine going i'd be happy to share my results. (I'm intrigued as to how much profit can be generated between the different sign up methods-yours offers a free product before signup and promoting afifliates /mine pays for a product straight away after providing the email and i'll be promoting my own products)

Anyway i better get back to it..

Nothing has been happening much, I've just submitted 2 more articles to Ezinearticles today. 1 article has been approved and the stats are as follows. They say that 50% CTR is good, at the moment I have 40%. Am going to start doing some videos very soon!

For some reason today I decided to write 4 articles so really I could take the day off tommorow, but nahhh. So whats been happening in terms of traffic? Well the adwords account is still sending PPC visitors. I have about £14 left. That should last about another 3-4 days. My second article was approved but my third was declined due to grammer and spelling. Been correcting the rest today. CTR is a measly 30%. My email list has risen to 54 subscribers and the 3rd follow up has been sent. That should hopefully remind them of who I am. Things are abit slow for now because I still have my final year dissertation to finish. As of now I have 6500 words out of possible 20000 and the hand in date is 1st May so I have a feeling I might put this on hold soon, I hope not though. I’m very happy with my progress, as long as that email list is growing then its fine. Am playing around with safelists now and I’ve just sent my first bunch of email, all 1162 emails. I really really need to get them videos up, that would be instant traffic, I know it. What did you do today?

    Until next time.

not bad 9 days and you've accummulated just over 50 subscribers.

You could always write up 2 months worth of articles in advance? Then you could still be submitting articles daily/weekly so there is always fresh content your getting out there, and still building the list.

o0o0o may 1st is my birthday..

I managed to complete 2 article rewrites of plr yesterday and posted them up in content section for sale.
It took on average 1.5hrs each article. I probably should charge more than 5 bucks..they are totally unique.
    Thanks for inspiration :)

I was going to ask what a safelist was, googled instead. Interesting,it's like back in the old days like a newsgroup.

Its great to know that you crossed the 50 mark. The most important thing is that you are taking action.

Here is a little suggestion from me.

Join some related forums and start contributing valuable information. Put a link to your landing page in your signature. Offer them some free report and you will see a decent increase in subscribers.

Today I written 2 articles. 1 was original but the other was a re-write of a PLR article. I've got tons of them on my hard drive. I think I'm getting writers block hence I had to results to PLR. The thing is with PLR I didn't have to think much, all I had to do was just re phrase it, how simple! You can imagine all the top guys doing with that have 10k articles to their name. If you look through ezinearticles I bet most of them are re-writes, I mean how many times can you say "The money is in the list" in different ways?

Don't be surprised If I start re-writing alot of PLR articles...I mean at the end of the day I just want the visitors on my list right? PLR is probably the way forward for now in terms of keeping up with the 2 articles per day rule.

4 of the articles have been approved now and have been read a combined total of 104 times and only 28 url clicks. Pathetic I think, I was hoping for a minimum 50%. I had 1 subscriber unsubscribe, what can I do? He didn't like my 3rd follow up even though it was free content...oh well. 1 of the articles had a "general problem" whatever that means, we'll see tommorow.

I created another squeeze page aswell by simply editing ones that are free online.
Only 2 new subscribers today, bit slow but at least its growing.

    Onwards and upwards

Michael I like your strategy, from someone who has currently written over 400 articles and built a pretty big list in the IM niche I would say that article marketing is a great source of traffic generation. I am now trying to multiply my marketing efforts into forums and videos to gain some extra traffic. Looking forward to seeing your results!

Thats great Matt! I'm targeting the IM niche aswell and would like to one day sell high ticket items. Just out of interest how big is your list these days (you must be raking it in!) and how long did it take you to write 400 articles. Is your CTR high?

    Best regards

Woke up very early today and decided to get to work. I pumped out 4 more PLR rewrites. I’m targeting the IM niche, I have a ton of them collecting digital dust so thought might aswell start using them properly. 3 of my articles have been declined and I’m waiting for a reply. It says Problem: General Error - Please contact us to find out more. I feel slightly pissed off as they were original articles (not rewrite) but I guess they are looking for quality articles and quality articles get views. I put alot of effort into my articles and for them to just get rejected feels rubbish!

I don’t know whether I should just delete them and make way for new articles to be submitted. Gonna give it a few days, been reading around that ezinearticles take abit of time getting back to emails.

I purchased a domain from godaddy.com for $0.99 for squeeze page purposes (promo code: LOVE99) to add to my article marketing. My email list has grown by 10 today which is the highest. My dissertation dead line is slowly creeping up so I will be slowing down what I’m doing in terms of working on this business. The most I’ll do is probably write is 2 articles a day. The great thing about this is that I will be building my list based on this project, you’ll see nearer the time.

I think for a newbie in this day and age, you may have to jazz the speed or volume up a little. Maybe 4 or 5 articles a day is too little if you're gonna want to make such an amount of monthly profit. Gung-Ho is certainly the best way to go about it, but this also means 8-10 hours a day, 7 days a week and if you keep this up then in a few months you should start to see a difference.

I wouldn't think article marketing is always the best method to choose (you're benefiting those sites more than your own). The search engines are always the first and most important factor to consider. To be successful here, you need juicy PR which means 10's of thousands of backlinks and PR updates from fresh blogs/sites can take months to even give you worthy rankings.

There's guys that have been doing this for over 10 years and they have thousands of pages indexed. If you want to match these then you will have to really turn the screw. This is usually done by some kind of viral marketing campaign, by insane dedication or by having affiliates/writers working on your behalf. Good luck, hope it works out.
