    Hello,

Great article! Thanks for the succint summary. I found it extreme helpful. I've got a few questions however that hopefully can be answered.

    Keyword research

Work out the best keywords to target based on relevance and KEI for each webpage on the site (or as many as possible).
    What is a KEI?

    On-Page Optimization

Meta desc: KW in the beginning, action for the visitor in the end.
What do you mean by action for the visitor in the end?

KW rich text starts early in the source: Use CSS-P for this and get the CSS and JS in external files.
    What is CSS-P?

Use the strong tag if possible to emphasize KWs
Is there a difference using strong tags and b tags?

    Thanks in advance!

Awesome guide! A lot of good tips in there. Too bad I had to figure them out for myself. I'm still working on getting enough links though. That and I'm working on increasing my content. It might not be that hard since my main site is more of an intro page and my shopping cart is on a subdomain...

Great guide - I'm gonna print that out for sure. I swear finding this forum has cut years off my learning curve. There was a similar guide-type post in the Adsense forum that I just read tonight, too. Thanks for sharing this one, Jim.

    Keyword Effectiveness Index
Here you have two nice articles about it:

    http://www.wordtracker.com/help/keihelp.html
    http://www.web-marketing.smartads.info/2005/choosing-keywords.html

Because the meta description tag is shown in the SERPs if the query is the same as the title. If you write an action for the visitor in the end you urge the person to click on your listing and do something.

    CSS Positioning.

With CSS and the use of absolute positioning you can place text and other things exactly where you want on the page but you can still have it first on after the body tag.

Right now I doubt it but in the future the b tag will dissapear and replaced by the strong tag. It is already so in the XML version of HTML. This because b is a styling and supposed to go in the CSS file.

    Thanks for the feedback.

How do you use the Title attribute in the anchor tags? Can someone give an example?

For the anchor tags, do we do that to all links on the main page?

    You don't have to.

I do that and I have a good rank, so I can recommend it.

What if those "relevant" web sites just won't exchange links with you? and what if your targeted keyword doesnt have that many relative web sites around?

Hmm. I guess get links from 'similar' or 'almost relevant' :) Anyway, usually any link is better than no link.

Or why don't make more sites in the subject and have those link to you :)

Thx jim. And I've read your latest article too, very nice. Maybe you can explain in another the ppc market, services, things concerning that.

    Heh, bump after 1 year.

Well, I am not working in the PPC market. I am working with SEO - specialized in the field of links.

I have several articles planned to write and some I even started with but I don't really have time. There are at least 3 extensive articles that I want to write: "How to SEO for a blog", "Reaching success with a Forum", "How to Save Time in Your Business". And then some other smaller articles: "V7N Contest, what did it take?", "Google Cache Error Reveals Secrets".

And then 1 major article that will be a surprise: "The Biggest Geek of all Time"

Due to a lot of client-work I don't have so much time for my writing :( . Well, let's see how it goes in a week or so.

Cheers for the info. How does the age of the domain affect PR and SERP? I'm having a few issues with one site I'm working on and all I can think of is the age of the domain is an issue.
