My Google Rankings just took a dump

Is anyone else experiencing a big dump in their rankings?

I've not done anything or changed anything or even really done much linking of late and all of a sudden I went from 5 to 19 and now 24. I alwasy experienced a bit of lfux going from 4-8 and back but this is a pretty big dump.

It is the fact that your competitors have done some search engine optimization to their website, and have build lots of backlinks, thus overtaking your ranking.

    ya thats possible

but that drastic change could be caused of some other things as well

like regular updates of content is also important factor

make sure that you are updating the site regularly

you might have links coming in from bad sources, like badly managed directories or link farms

ya that could be the case as well but i am not sure

he menitoned that old links are there only and he added some more to them

so i wonder if that will be the actual case

the most prominent cause i think is the same that stanley mentioned that the competitors are doing a better work and thats why he is suffering

the actual coz i just cant figure out

some other members told me that this could have happened coz of any reason including unproper updating in content to lack of relevant content

this also could be coz of site down for sometime (webhosting problem)

when google bods visits site and your site is not up coz of anyreason than that could lead to pr fall as well

    thats what i know
hope the info will be usefull to you

I did have a hiccup in my hosting about 3 weeks ago that caused some downtime. Would that be the cause of it ? even after this period of time?

Also, I dont think its my competitors working harder. A few spots slip would be fine but not this far into the third page. This feels like a penalty of some sort.

No, that is incorrect. He might have those, but they wouldn't be the cause of a rankings drop. If it were that easy to screw up someones site then we would all be bowling our competitors out of the game. You shouldn't pass on bad info like that as fact.

Yes, there has been some shifting going on the past few days. There was some talk about it over at SEORefugee as well. I did have one site drop about 35 spots for its main phrase, and a subpage was showing instead of the homepage, but that came back tonight. I've also seen at least 4 data exports since last night (there might have been more, but that's all I saw), which seems high to me.

Have your rankings changed since yesterday when you posted this?

Does this mean that a competitor could poison your google placement by adding your url to bad link farms?

    Hey guys!

The site has come back a little bit today for its main phrase. It went from 24 back to 15. i'm hoping this is just a temporary flux or data export.

Anyway, thanks for the heads up.

Big change in Serps today. All the keyword which were gone for almost 3 months are back. This is great.

The changes affected 1 website of me (quality website). In the last 3 months I worked very hard on the website. Put some new articles on the website acquired some good links.

I noticed now two times allready, that if the site is new, around 3 months old, there is suddenly a big drop in SERP, but things return to normal in a week.
