I want to know if this is normal.
Sometime my ads disappears when i check my blog and later comes back on when i re-check it. Could it be that google does this intentionally so as to optimize the ads?

May be sometime there are public service ads up there which you see.
And it happens sometime but not always. :)

it has to do with limited content on your site.
More content = more selection of ads

    Your problem is Content!

If you're taking full effective of your keywords inside your content, then it either could be Google doesn't have any Ads' to display, or a script on your website could be causing a few problems... I've experienced in the past it takes at least a week for Google to settle down on a particular page; sometimes it would display French Advertisements and such; so I guess if you sit it out you'll be fine.

    Hope that helps,
    Lynn.
