My goal = $4k/month...possible strategies....???

I have 3-4 hrs per night to devote to work on my site(s). I'm starting to learn some of the basics of SEO, but I still have a long way to go. I'm torn between a mass approach - build several niche sites and see which ones perform and further expand those sites - and a single site, more focused approach.

It seems like everyone who I have talked to who has achieved my goal, and more, is focusing on a single site or a SMALL group of sites....BUT....most people started out with a large group of sites (30-50+) in order to find those more profitable sites that they are currently working on. I haven't really heard from anyone who just started with 1 or 2 sites.

If you've reached this income level....what did YOU do to get there and how long did it take? Is 8-12 months a realistic timeframe? Specifically, what would you do with 3-4hrs/night if you were starting from scratch with limited SEO skills? I need a gameplan.

I would say 3 years on average for someone with little experience to create a site, get top ten rankings and become a household name in the specific niche.

This will need some good ideas and a little luck though. An experienced person could probably do it in a year.

Alot of people give up though so....

Work slowly. Start with one site and play with it. See what works, see what doesn't work. Read up on what other people suggest for SEO then test it, then test the opposite way. You'll learn a lot. Once you get a month or so under your belt you'll be able to branch out much more easily with less confusion

    Good luck,
    Aaron

Actually you can make whatever you want with as many time you have just by finding the right niche and concentrate on that niche 24/7. This means don't get distracted by other things. You see the reason people fail to achieve what they want is simply because they jump aound from one thing to the other. Stay focus and maintain a goal. If you find the right niche and study it good then I'd give you 30 days to make your first check and here's the best part about it, you don't need a website.

Just find a demand, supply that demand and you'll get paid. Its that simple. We tend to waste more time impressing others with the things on our website then selling the content directly to the customer. But hey, if thats your call of building a site then no probs, it'll just take longer to get there thats all.

bend your back and do lots of hard work on your first website.. there is no substitute for hard work...generally people tend to get lazy in the middle which shouldnt happen to you...

Who can honestly build a large group of sites by themselves in a few hours a night?

    Quality = Money and sustainability

Quantity = Crap that may make a few dollars in the short term - or even a lot if you are a programmer and willing to spam and annoy everyone with blackhat... but in the end the quality will attract the kind of linking partners you need to build.

Focus on something you enjoy and make sure you do your research on the market niche BEFORE you even code one page of HTML.

I'm not quite there yet, not consistently at $4k/month, but on my way. I've got a lot of good advice out of this thread already, but what I have learned since I've been doing this (just over a year now, from zero to where I am) is that I got lucky because I found a great niche which was completely uncovered (in the right way) which had great potential for income generation, and I got in at the right time in the right way.

Now, I pretty much own my niche, and that has allowed me to diversify out of that niche and start pushing into other related profitable areas with the foundation of the reputation earned on the main site and the return visitors to my main site who will also like the secondary and later sites that I make.

Why 4k? Why not be realistic and start at 500 per month? You need a massive amount of dedication to reach the 4k mark IMO, by massive I mean you are talking consistent hard work for years.

Maybe he is aiming for $4k because it is a more worthwhile goal than $500. With that attitude we could all aim for mediocrity and be happy in our success.

Aim for the moon.... you know the rest.

I am making over 4k and only in the webmaster world for around 1 year... I have always dedicated myself with 1 niche... now I am trying to expand myself with other niches and it is kind of working... just need more time! hehehe... anyways I would say start with 1 niche, 1 that you really like... and then go from there.

I have been doing websites and web hosting since Oct 2004 and I have still nowhere near $4k/mth. My advice will be not to give up when things are not looking up. One thing to take note for me is that I got enlisted into the army so I am only working on my websites during weekends. :D

fidn the niche you are good at ot interested in. read more advices and suggestion on this forums and always open to the new niche opportunities. to get to 4k/month, you have to start with something even it gave you 100$/month first then develop it to higher profit. start with 1 ite to learn everything and then expand it to more niche later. hope this help. :D

I recommend to primarily focus on micro niche sites with virtually no competition. The trade off here is that the keywords generate low traffic volumes which ultimately = low earnings, but don’t let that fool you. Less competition means u can establish your site very quickly and have it up and earning in a matter of weeks in some cases.

The small earnings from your micro niche can then be reinvested into a more heavily competitive niche with much more traffic and earnings potential. Investment will help you jump up the rankings, eventually establishing your site as a leader in that industry. The main investment should be acquiring links as this is the fastest way to jump the rankings.

How do I know if I've found a potentialy profitable niche? I have a blog on back pain, would that be a decently profitable niche on which to focus? I thought I might be able to practice my SEO skills by getting consistent traffic to this blog. Is this niche too competitive?

    Regards,
    Mike
