I will be honest with everyone. I started my 'online business' a few months a ago without a clue as to how to make my first dollar. The first thing I did was to find out how others 'did it'. First book I bought was on affiliate marketing, cost me US$47. Read twice but didn't do anything. Second book I bought was The Rich Jerk, same kind of stuff with a few new ideas, I only like the picture of the gals standing around the pool. Then bought Shawn Casey internet book and CDs and DVDs, cost US$700 plus I think, realised is a taped live seminar with ideas found everywhere in this forum, felt conned by the sales copy, disappointed and paid $80 to send it back for a refund. Bought Michael Cheney Adsense videos, same ideas but got impressed by Adsense and feel most comfortable with it. Heard that blogs can help generate traffic so bought SEO blogBuilder ($290) to auto build it ... didnt work. Heard that ranking high in search engine will bring in traffic, so bought SEO Elite to help do the work ... those you want to link to won't reply to your emails. But at least understood how they rank on top. Bought Wordtracker for a year subscription, another few hundred dollars ... but useful tool to find popular keywords. Finally decided on developing websites for Adsense. Think I will be most comfortable with this. First website was on tourism. Took a lot of pictures of my country's top attraction myself and posted many videos. Paid a schoolboy to help me do the website every Friday cos don't know anything about web design. Then realise not too many people search for my country. Then found that goldfish has a lot of searches and I too kept fishes for quite some time. So paid a guy in Elance to develop 20 articles for US$300. Posted all of them on the web plus some of others from the article directories, visited aquariums to take pictures, use photoshop to improve them and put it up. Oh, the cost of hosting ... $8.90 per month from Yahoo. I got 4 accounts from them. Most of them were registered in the middle of the night and half asleep. Got a sudden 'great idea' and inspiration I guess. Heard that submitting articles is good for traffic. So submitted some of my original articles to 3 article directories. A few weeks later, they start to show up in search engine results ... happy for a while. Then heard that not so good for duplicate contents, so wrote my own articles and submitted them. I am checking on my adsense earnings every hour. I wake up in the middle of the night to check also. I ask my friends to help me 'take a look' at my websites. I try to see if there is a magical way to develop a website that will attract a million visitors a day. I marvel at those who earn or claim they earn $1000 a day and wonder how on earth they did it. Should I buy another Ebook or not? What topic should I focus on? Is there something that everybody wants and nobody has yet developed it??? Youtube is sold for $1 billion dollars, I thought of that first ok ....I should be the next one with a billion dollar idea !!! arhhhhhhh .... Back to earth. Here's the results so far. As of today, it is quite encouraging. $0.59 cents from 44 impressions. Yesterday $0.85 cents from 143 impressions. In the last three weeks, only one day exceeded $1. The good thing is, someone out there (not my friends) clicked on my ads while I was sleeping (maybe half asleep). The sad thing is ...well ... we all know it. So my goal is $10 per day first. After I reach it, $50 per day, then $100 per day, then in 20 years time $1000 per day. When I reach that $1000 per day, I will tell everyone exactly how I do it, my URLs, how much time I take to do it, how much I spend to do it, how many friends I ask to click, how many books I read and what are the things not to do. I want to put a stop to those super fabulous sales copy that SUCK your cash out of your pockets and make them TONNES of money. Because I know how frustrating this journey is and I know many people out there who genuinely needs an additional source of income from somewhere else. I hope I can be of help in the future. But I must reach my goal first in order to know and be sure what I am talking about. In case you want to know my secret of making under a dollar a day, my website is tothefish.com
I know exactly where you're coming from. I bought the Rich Jerk and a bunch of other get rich quik garbage off clickbank. If I had a pennie for ever time I checked Adsense. I'd have at least 100$ a day (No joke). You've just got to FOCUS. When you worrie about what other people are doing it gets you discouragesd. My mentor makes about 40,000$ a month off Adsense. I'm always worried about what he's doing. But he's been at it for 5 years. It wont happen over night BUT IT WILL HAPPEN
Well, you probably know by now that ebooks aren't going to make you money unless YOU write and sell them. At the end of the day it comes down to properly targetted traffic. If the people visiting your site are interested in it's topic/theme, and the ads are relevant, then you'll make money. Same with subscription. Thing is, you need to ensure there are enough people interested in your subject matter (enough potential earnings - realistically) to qualify the effort. Either you get a lot of websites that perform some of the time with little traffic, or a couple of large sites that perform well all of the time. The rest you can read about here at DP. If you're still into the hype, you can try www.shoemoney.com where the owner pimps just about everything imaginable (he also tries out most of what he advocates, and has his own web based radio show where he discusses much of what you're interested in). Either way, there's no need to have an original approach to making money online. Try not to reinvent the wheel, just realize it takes time to turn. Patience will be your greatest asset. Cheers, JL
yeah uhmmmmm if you want to buy more stuff I'm sure I can find something to sell you on a more serious note. Start "doing" it rather than read about it. Make a site and see what works. The more things you try the more you will see what does and does not work for you. The best of luck to you.
Keep working at it. There are plenty of awesome people that give away great advice and testimonials everyday.. dive into this forum and you will learn a lot..
im approaching about $3 a day now, people here definitely are helping. I have had adsense on since may and have been tweaking ever since, just need more traffic now.
I went through the ebook craze and it made me nothing until I started tweaking and tweaking and testing and waited and slowly but surely I figured out what worked and what didn't
Well, I've been doing websites for about a year and a half now. Started with adsense about a year ago and didn't spend any money on any of those so called get rich books. I'm making a steady 700 per month now with my best day being a little over 40.00. I'd like to thank DP and everyone here for opening my eyes to adsense and for all their help. I'm hoping to be at a steady $50 per day by the first of the year and I truly believe I'll be averaging over $3000 per month by this time next year.
Very honest statement there, kenn, and I think it rings true with most of us--whether we're making $.17/day or $1,000/day. Like many, I got sucked in by one of these scamsters promising untold riches through Adsense. When the smoke cleared and I found out it wasn't "easy money," I found out that I actually liked doing all this stuff anyway.
eBooks suck. Plain and simple IMHO. Just do a website you know about and can do something unique. THen keep at it. It will do decent eventually. Also don't having friends check out your ads just hurts you and the rest of us in the long run.
I am just now getting a steady $1.50 - $2.00 a day but its getting better so I can not complain. It pays for the Hosting I guess.
Bang on - It's so easy to get stuck in the research mode that you never get on to actually doing anything really. I've caught myself a few times doing nothing but reading about what others are doing for days on end. The more websites and ideas you make into reality, the more you find out what works and what doesn't.
my highest month was just above $400. There was a week I made between $20 - $50 during that month. I later found out it was because of a blog. Now, i'm down to pennies since I haven't posted anything on it for a while.
First the basic thing you need good enough traffic do earn more money on adsense. The layout of the website is not a crucial part but still it helps to improve the CTR. So keep close of site design, make it simple not adding more graphics, with no Frames, try different ad styles etc. SE's is the best source for traffic, so keep on adding contents to your site and exchange links with quality and relevant sites. Try to create a Blog using Wordpress, it has lots of features like inbuilt SEO etc. Patience is very much important in this business. Personally, I started my sites last year and not earned a single penny from adsense for about few months, but laterly I improved myself learning the curves from forums, other relevant sites etc and now I am almost making $1000 per month from adsense. Self Learning is pretty much important, most of the ebooks does'nt tell you much and only few gimmicks inside. It helps only 10% of the ebooks worth and mostly it available on the internet elsewhere for free. So you have spend few more hours daily on searching internet marketing tactics and develop yourself. Good Luck.
One thing you should do is get a hosting reseller account. That way you can host as many domain as you want for a reasonable price. $8.90 a month is way too much if you want to start experimenting with different ideas.
I cant imagine spending that kind of money on ebooks and crap. I made my first site 3 weeks ago and im getting 1000+ pageviews a day and about $0.20-$1 a day... not what i was hoping for but its better than nothing i guess
This is really surprising and a bit sad. I've never bought any ebook in my life.. and I thank God for not buying any You should work on further improving your site and promoting it. Remember, the whole idea behing a website is to make one and then market it. You need to implement all that you read in those ebooks now. The first thing you should do with your site is to get a professional design it. The current design is not looking too good. However, if you really want to stick with the design for a few months, thats alright. The next most important thing you should do is to start getting links for the site. Get it indexed on Search Engines. I just saw and your site is PR 0. You can start with directory submissions. You can hire someone to do the sirectory submissions for you. There are a lot of people here who offer cheap submission services. Then you should work on optimizing your site on search engines for improved rankings. With a few links, and articles, and some PR, you'll see traffic coming to your site directly froim search engines. Use some tracking stats software like www.statcounter.com to see your traffic and where its coming from. Success comes with time. Your first post shows your dedication and hard work that you're willing to put in your site. Just be consistent and you'll see fruitful results in just a few months. Good Luck!
