My Friends will Write for Food

A couple of days back, an old friend of mine asked me for help - she and her husband badly needed a job. I offered them writing posts in my team, but they declined since, of course, I charge $0.02/word for general mainstream topics and $0.03/word for IT/science-related subjects, and my team receives 60% of this amount since I have quality assurance measures that take up my own resources in terms of money and time.

These friends of mine are proficient writers - MA degree holders and university English literature professors, but they were working for the top state university of our country, and this university needed to lay off at least 10% of senior professors since our government withdrew 40% of the college education budget alloted for 2007. They have 3 mouths to feed aside from their own, 3 little people to educate, house rent to pay, bills to pay, and the list goes on and on.

They need a consistent long-term writing job that pays $1500/month. They can come up with 3000+ words worth of original quality content per day, 5 days per week, from their collective effort. Do you have anything for them? Please send me a PM or post on this thread. Thanks.

I don't have a job to offer either but I can see how much you want to help them and I think they're lucky to have a good friend. I hope you can get them the job they need. :(

They should post in the freelance job board instead of fumbling with the low rate in DP. Good luck !

Can anyone inform me about job sites or forums where I could advertise their services and actually get clients that can pay their rates? Thanks.

    ZeroInfinity,

Try Craigslist - both for posting their credentials and searching for freelance writing jobs.

Ideally, they should have a website with links to their writing samples and portfolio if possible.

    Other websites include:

Constant Content (free) - after joining, check out the requested content section
Developer Shed (free) - technical in nature, but high paying
Office Users (free) - great if they can write articles on MS Office Software, decent pay
Writer's Market Online (low monthly fee - $3.99) - tons of writing markets here
Associated Content (free) - low paying, but 10 articles a day equals about $1000 a month
Elance (monthly fee $24.99 and up) - can find clients here sometimes that are willing to pay decent rates

    Job Board:
    Freelance Writing Jobs

    Forums:
    All Freelancing

    Hope this helps...

I should be able to hire them if they can provide consistent quality content. It will be a per article payment, but see my thread here:

    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=382505

I'm actually looking for more like 10-12 articles a day so 12 articles a day @ 5 is about 1200 a month. I'm sure we can work out something. I'll need a sample article, please check that thread.

To everyone who posted on this thread, I greatly appreciate all the support and help you have given. I have collated the forums/sites where my friends could get work, and I'm sending you a PM, Battleship, a bit later this afternoon. I have to try advertising my friends' services on some of the forums/sites. Thanks. I'll post updates on this thread regarding their job-hunting ventures. Thanks, again, for your time and support.
