Hi, I have see your site. the color and template is simple and you can add one or more image/flash. It's just my opinion.
A color Change on the side nav is need...which might make you want to rethink the whole color scheme... i just find it hard to look at with those colors
My honest opinion: Not really impressed. Its not professional theme. At first glance it looked like there are some browser compatibility error. You may want to take idea from free template which are specially designed for writing related sites.
For a first time site it isn't bad. 3 Negatives I would recommend removing the 3 pages image that is repeated in the banner, or at least limiting it to one. The color scheme is a little off, but that may be due to my colorblindness. There is irrelevant and frankly worthless content on all the other pages on the site. It all seems a tad "thrown together". 3 Positives The interactive navigation buttons are a nice touch. I really like the pencil with the marking trail in the banner. Good sales pitch on why your site should be used, rather than the mainstream sites. I would recommend looking at competing sites, and seeing what you like/don't like, and making what you do like your own. Just a thought.
