My Forums In Phpbb Were Hacked!!!

    Today someone took the time and DELETED all my files. I had 1.8gbs on files all GONE! i have about 200mb of back ups. I am not sure what to do with this. I can say DO NOT USE PHPBB FOR YOU FORUMS

    I had the same issue on one of my sites but i was lucky to repair it.

    You not got no sql back up ?

    Yeah people always tell me not to use phpbb but I just like it alot.

    phpbb isn't bad if you keep it up to date, and always have a recent backup of your files.

    I have the backup for sql but i want to switch to vb anyone know how to make that work?

    Do you have any idea how they managed to get into your install? Does your web server log provide clues as to the file they used? Or do you think they just guessed your password?

    I think phpbb is rather good, As long as it is up to date you shouldn't get hacked.

    I have ran phpbb forums for years and only twice have i ever been hacked and that was NOT due to phpbb but a hole in my server!

    ya it was up to date just it is very easy to hack phpbb and i knew that when i got it but i didnt have the money to get vbulletin now i have it but want to transfer my phpbb database to vB

    I have heard from several people that PhpBB is not highly recommended, particularly there have been several occasions which PhPBB forums were hacked.

    i have the database but that doesnt solve my problem as when i uploaded it to like vB then it just said that everyone was banned and it didnt show the topics or anything.

    Even I was hit by Hackers on my phpBB forum. Even one of my SMF forum got hacked!!

    Go back and re-read the vBulletin ImpEx manual, including the "after importing" steps, and do NOT skip any steps!

    Chances are all your data is there - you just have a few things left to do to get it to display.

    Then you must be doing something really wrong.... SMF is known to be more secure than PhPBB..., and yet it got hacked.

    More secure, but that doesn't mean it is entirely secure thus still being open to being hacked.
