My forum, i think its been reg'ed with a spam list

Hello my forum i think has been reg'ed with a spam list or something, becuase i'm getting a number of posts a day about buying products, and porn lists etc, its a business forum, and i had this one post saying (Moderators - if your seeing this message and want this bot to stop posting please block the username) which i did, but i been getting a number of these posts,

I will need to put the sercurity code up again, but if you have any other suggestions please say,

 

What forum software are you using? If it's vb3, then there is a great mod for user registration to prevent spammers from auto signing up, see it in action here: http://www.sgnonline.com/vb3/register.php

So far not a single spammer has been able to bypass it, and it's very easy on new users.

The other mod is to disable live links until they have say 15 posts which worked for me.

 

That one can be a real nightmare though. Well depends on the forum I suppose, we had quite a lot of legit users posting links on their first few posts, so even setting that number of required posts down to 5 annoyed the users. So we got rid of it, and added that registration thing, which has worked flawlessly so far.

 

Another thing you might need to do is disable the memberlist from guest view.

I suppose these bots find you by looking for VB signatures, such as the footer link and the file structure. There probably isn't an awful lot you could do about that, though.
