my forum getting tons of members ... from unrelated sources

    So I noticed lately im getting tons of signups and they all seem to be russian. they all have email addresses from mail.ru? They dont seem to be spamming so I think they may be real members. Anyone have any idea why this would be happening as my site is completely english and not related to anything russian..

    Maybe check where your visitors are coming from? A Russian site may have linked to the forums...

    Either that, or The Invasion has begun, and I need to find shelter.

    Hi Hitboy!
    Those .ru addresses are spammers. They're not verifying because 1) they are getting blocked because you are requiring email verification and the emails are bogus or 2) they simply want back links out of your member lists.

    So to stop 1) ban .ru emails and cashette.com emails. To stop 2) don't show the member list or at least don't show sigs and websites columns in the member list.

    Yes they are spammers who are not completing the signup process.. ban their IP's to stop more coming in.
