My first website.. need advice on how to advertise!

    Hi everyone,
I launched a non-profitable donation website (freepoverty.com) about a month ago and I'm not getting more than 100 users per day. I really want people to be aware of this website and use it.. my budget on advertising is very low!
Any advice? All comments would be greatly appreciated! :)

StumbleUpon is a great way to get traffic coming in quickly. Non-profit sites are usually pretty easy to get into the various directories out there, and you might consider finding other non-profit sites and offer a link exchange among sites.

That's a very nicely laid out site with a fairly unique little game. Don't worry if the directories you're submitting to have high PR or not, fact is even PR 0 sites will add a little to your page. Besides, it looks more natural to have a mix of PR results coming in, and that might matter.

Find people that blog about this sort of thing and send them an email, see if they'll give your site a look over and write-up. Blog fodder is always good for them after all.

Are you a registered charity? If so, you might want to put proof of that somewhere. And maybe add a place for people to actually donate through pay-pal.

The cups of water donated thing is a little misleading, I doubt I made you more than a few cents, let alone 140 cups of water.

Good suggestions here. Writing articles and then submitting them to article directories is a good way to get word out about your site and you pick up a ton of backlinks that help you with search engine placements. You can usually do this for for free or pretty cheap too.

Yes, you should get some backlinks for the site. Currently you only have 7 backlinks... You need way more backlinks in order to get more exposure for your site.

Directory submissions, specific charity ones probably exist?
    Post on charity related forums
Go to your local charity shops and ask to put a poster in their window or give them leaflets to hand out
Facebook groups, make one for the site and join related ones and post a wall post about your site
Make a myspace page for the site
Do sponsored events and tell your local paper about it
Contact charity societies at universities and colleges, they would probably be interested and let their members know about the site.

Talk to those non-profits that have sites "feed a child by clicking here" they're based off advertisers. Maybe you could exchange banners, etc.

Use StumbleUdon.com -- you will get hundreds of initial visitors, and if they like your website, the stumbles will accumulate and you will get endless traffic from StumbleUpon :D

    (yes, StumbleUDON.com - not a typo)

Main sources of traffic can be search engines. But you need to do some SEO.

Build Back Links. Submit articles to article directories.
