Hello guys, this website is the first I am ever building. I am not so much concerned about the content which I added already, because that is constantly updated and renewed. Then I realized I needed some nice logo on my header, especially since the Joomla! factor is still off the charts Because I draw and design like a 3 year old I asked one of my friends, who deals alot with graphic software, tho primarily construction and architecture, to make me a simple logo. Simple but not scaring away potential visitors. I think it looks pretty nice, tho because he is my friend, and I was part of the design process I am ofcourse really biased. So what do you guys think? adress is http://stocksandtrends.com Oh and pls don't spare me, I can take a hit or two Thanks, Bolk
Maybe you should change ads placement. And the logo - do something with it. Make a glassy logo with a nice color.
Well the ads I am not really concerned about, I'll figure those out when in the future I actually get some traffic (i hope). Its more that I dont want ppl to think they stumble upon some flashy site hyping some investment scheme. So making a logo more 'glossy' wouldnt that be counterproductive?
i think you should put some graph like image showing the rise and fall (of stocks). The jagged green lines looked more like electric current surges to me because its leaning on the letter "T" ( which seems to be the pole.
yo man... you said you can take a hit. i hate to say this, i really do, i remember the first logo i made in 1996 and how much it meant to me... but your logo doesn't cut the mustard. it's awful. the font, color, and layout is retro, the logo is way too complicated, and the graph doesn't fit to the letters. a logo should be simple, elegant, not be all over the place... the way to test a logo is to shrink it to a really small size, if it's still recognizable, it's probably a good logo. even if you just get ANY bold-faced sans-serif font and put it in italics in a plain color, it will still look better than what you have. now i know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so my opinion is subjective, but man, i doubt you'll find anyone who likes your logo. one thing, never work with friends, because if they do a sorry job, as happened in this case, you can't tell them to get lost. a friendship is forever right? so you will have to figure out some way to lose the logo without hurting your friend. the rest of your site is ok.
Thanks for your input, i really appreciate it ! About the shrinking of the logo to see if it is still recognisable, I will definately try that out. And about the friend thing, you are absolutely right, I should have thought of that earlier. I know he has alot of other sketches on paper. I have those scanned, maybe ill upload the pdf so you guys can take a look at it. There are for instance somewhat alike designs, but wiithout the large S&T, just plain simple words in smaller fonts. Let me see if i can find it.
I like the overall look. I think that the logo is too plain, you need something that pops. I thing you do have a great idea with the site. Good Luck
I have finally found those logo sketches I mentioned earlier. I have uploaded them to my server at following location: http://www.stocksandtrends.com/images/pdfs/S%26T-LOGO1.pdf http://www.stocksandtrends.com/images/pdfs/S%26T-LOGO2.pdf Pls tell me what you think
Hello Bolkie. I had a look at your logo as requested in this thread. I would recommed that you ask your friend to take a second try at the logo. I don't want to discourage someone from getting into the graphics field... but I think that if you can get them to do another shot... that would be good... Ideas: Use the following search engine: picsearch.com search term = stock exchange search term = stock trends You will get some good ideas of inspiration for a logo. Hope that helps a little. Respectfully, Lhlalyam
Hello Bolkie. Here is a quick idea that I tried out. Its very simple... but you can use it for an idea... I'd also suggest that you try out a different Joomla template. There are many free ones about on the web. Respectfully, Lhlalyam
Dear Lhlalyam, this is more help then I could have hoped for The logo looks pretty nice, I guess "less is more" right? About the templates. I need to look into that, I am kinda hesitant to join some of those paid template sites. Also, I am trying to get a thesis approved so i can graduate from university. I never knew one could be under that much stress So atm I only have around an hour a day to work on my little website. But I am definately keeping these ideas in mind. I really appreciate your help. Bolkie
