    Hi!

So i made my first psd temp and i´d like to know your thoughts on it. I´m not sure which one of these two to use, so give me a hand, which one you prefer. And also give comments on general. The temp is my first and for a real company.

It´s a cobbler company in my town. And don´t worry it´s a freebie :). It´s a really simple 4-5 page site. I used a help from a tutorial to make it. It´s not coded yet and has no content. So be honest and be gentle ;)

here´s a link to the pics:

    Thanks in advance!

I only see like maybe one color in your template. Other than that it's really nice.

Color trouble as stated above... It looks okay - but it's boring. And it seems that text is centered - that's not a good idea for plain text. It mucks up reading rhytm.

    Nice templates HDaddy!

I think I would go with the first one (cobbler.jpg), but I would change that background under the content text - those lines. They look great, but the text is unreadable. Maybe you just should change the opacity to some lower degree.

But anyway, if that is your first template then congrats, it's a good work for a newbie in that field :)
Good luck with the coding! ;-)

The template is fine, looks like you have to practice a bit more on the rounded corners but it's just too dood for a beginner.

    Good luck!

Nice clean design, however.. I don't think the photographs work well with the layout.. they look "off"

It looks good to me. Depending on the use it may be a little too simple but the design looks good to me. If I was buying this template, I would be happy with it.

The only thing I would probably change would be the logo and the buttons in the navigation bar. I don't consider this something that should be provided in the template though. I would rather have my own graphic designer make a few changes to ensure I have a somewhat unique design.

I think the above people may be a little harsh but they may have more design experience than I do. My comments are purely from a website developer standpoint that doesn't have the talent to do my own design work. And btw, I like #1 more than #2 but you could easily provide both and let the end user decide.

Thank you for your comments. i will consider your suggestions. As hostcord and pj1s said i have problems with color usage. i never seem to use lots of colors. in this temp there are only 2 colors :) The temps purpose is only to let people know that "hey this is my business, maybe you wanna use my services" so that´s why it´s very simple. And the navbar actually isn´t going to have any buttons, just a change of color in mouse over.

What comes to the boring look, what would you suggest i´d add in the temp?

splash a few colors, rounded corners, gradients and dropshadows are easy ways to make it a bit interesting. See if you can find a good CSS tutorial for the nav bar - this could also make a difference.

Perhaps you should replace the black box images with some actual images - that would make it easier to grasp - when looking at the overall design.
