    Hey there,

I'm a 16 year old from England whose interested in making money through the internet.

This title is slightly wrong, because this isn't quite my first project, more like my first important one. Last year around exam period, I made a revision website which my friends could access. However my web design and coding skills were pretty bad.

Anyway, back to now, I've made a new section based on this year's exams and I intend to put up lots of revision materials. For this, I decided to put on a completely new design.
I would like to know what you guys (the experts) think of the design/coding/layout/everything about the new section of the site. I haven't finished fully making it, mainly just the homepage is finished, but I would appreciate it if I could get some feedback.
    My website is: www.revisemenow.com
The old section = GCSE (bad design)
The new section = AS (new design).

Also I'd like to know what you guys think of a revision site in general, e.g. is it a good idea and could it be monetised well?

    Thanks.

it looks good congratz... but one thing i have a problem with is the number of ads you put on the site.... i'd advise you to keep the top and bottom ones and remove the middle ones...

    Cheers..;)

Believe it or not this is exactly how I started online. I created revision websites to help me understand my GCSE subjects better, and now I am doing the same for my AS subjects. (I am 17 btw).

I like the design of the AS modules part of the site, in fact the design is awesome. However as far as the code goes I would recommend that you popped over to the validator at http://validator.w3.org/

If i were you I would also consider learning more about CSS and how to control your layout with it. Basically, tables are so last year.

You also have some PHP errors, i am sure that you are aware of them, Here are the ones that I spotted

It would also be good if you PM me when you have got some content up, I would like to read through it for you and maybe give you some constructive criticism, (I could only comment on physics, economics and pure and stats maths)

Overall, nice domain, nice site, very nice design, It could do well, as far as monetizing it goes I couldn't comment on that as I never tried, but I am sure if you can get some good traffic (tell your friends) that you could earn a bit through adsense.

    Good luck with it,

    Nicangeli

I'm 18, from Scotland, so I know pretty much how English school system works and all that.

If your 16 then why do you have adsense on there? You need to be 18+ to sign up to adsense...

But I think it's a pretty good site overall, you could get some good traffic from England, although the rest of the world won't care as it's to do with English schooling system.

Your adsense placement isn't great. Having it at the bottom of a page won't produce a good click through rate, people just won't see it much.

    Your design is pretty good.

Getting a coder on board would be good, getting the site to validate and not have errors, etc.

But the main thing is just to get content up, then market it a bit.

    Good luck with it anyway,
    TS

Thanks guys. I realise my coding skills aren't brilliant, well I can make something look good, just not be perfectly coded :p

And I've got adsense because my older brother signed up for me.

Content is my next step now, and nicangeli, yep that I've found that coding error too and I'm working on it.

I checked the site through http://validator.w3.org/ and: Result: Passed validation

If any of you have any suggestions with the site, e.g. best places for adsense (on the AS page and also the inner pages - look at feedback page or donate page to see inner design) then let me know.

Thanks guys again for the feedback.

For adsense placement this would be the prime location:

I'd take the one from the bottom of the page away (it'll just lower the CTR, etc), keep the small line of ads under the banner though.

Well thats what I would do, then some in content ad's once you get content put up there.

Oh wow I see what you mean! Thanks for letting me know! And also in reply to the adsense post, its a good idea for placement, so thanks and I'll try it out.

Ah I have found a problem with placing it there... The background at the top is a gradient and I don't think adsense allows for a gradient background :(
I think for the homepage I won't worry too much about adverts, but in the other pages I'll put them in.

    Does that sound ok?

    Hi,

This is Jeff Beer, and this is my first time on D.P. and so is my first post/reply as well (I'm looking for a place to post my query of where to find a place to get a script for my site similar to myspace's script... but I stumbled upon your post and enjoyed reading it! haha)

Well, I was wondering if you are looking for someone to add the content of psychology for your site? I'm a psychology and philosophy major here in Pittsburgh, PA, USA.

    Thanks!
    Jeff

    Hey Jeff,

Well that's an interesting offer, I didn't expect any members of D.P to offer some content! :p
I can't reject free content, so I'll definite accept any content you have to give.
    See PM.

    Thanks,

    Kizza
