My First Joomla Site - Please Review

It's my first attempt using Joomla CMS. Please give me your feeling about it. Any advice is welcome.

It's ok so far, except Joomla's so-called SEF (search engine friendly) URLs are not very memorable. More human readable and memorable urls might help with word of mouth/revisit by type-in. Your adsense layout seems nice too.

I'll try to see how i can change the SEF rewrite rules to be more readable by users.

 

Nice layout. The logo a little too rough around the edges. Does not validate with w3.org. One image missing in the footer (alt text = financial freedom).

 

My initial reaction is that the site feels a bit cluttered. The adsense box has nice text spacing, but the content itself feels like it is bunched up. If you spaced your content the same way as the adsense text, not only would it give the page a less constrained feel, it might also blend your ads better.

On my browser (Firefox 1.5.0.7), the Menu box on the left is broken. I'm not sure if that is something unique to my system or not. But, I thought I'd let you know. Other than that, the secondary and drill down pages look nice. I hope that you find these tips useful, and I wish you the best of luck with your new site!

 

To keep this short here is my opinion:

- new logo is a MUST (a better one)
- bigger fonts (try Arial)
- too much green
- i'd get rid of the flashy ads or any other ads from the header since your site is still starting and we don't want to scare visitors but to present them the content and make them stay.

That's about it.

Thanks for all your comments. As you may have seen, it's also my first attempt in graphical design. My next step will be to change the template, colors, logos and font.
Thanks atomique for your comment about flash ads. It's a good point. I'll change all of this. Anyway, i don't think this kind of ads is useful.

 

layout is excellent but I wouldn't use that green color for fonts.

Template is not that good. Also, to much information is scattered all over. I didn't know what to look at first. Sometimes simple is better. Just a thought.
