My First Ever PPC Campaign

    Hi Guys,

This looks like a great forum here which i'm happy i have found. I am totally new to marketing but have been educating myself with advanced google adwords by Brad Geddes. I now have a better understanding but obviously i still have so much to learn and experience.

I have decided to start out using Microsoft Adcentre only for now with a very very small budget as i am learning. This way i wont be burning money and as i improve i will just re-invest the profits to my PPC campaign.

This question is regarding keywords. At the moment i have around 100 keywords which are mostly longtail and are very specific which i'm happy about. They have been live now over 2 weeks and i still havnt received any impressions never mind clicks. Is 100 keywords too little? I am comfortable creating more longtail keywords but i am not sure what is too many and if i should just stick it out with the 100 i already have.

The keywords i have now are very similiar in alot of instances but with small wording changes. I am thinking if i have lots of longtails keywords then it cant hurt me as they are super specific and wont cost me money unless someone clicks them. But i just wanted the opinions of experienced marketers. Fwiw i am using only exact match because of my small budget. Maybe switch them too phrase?

From now on i am sure to be a regular reader and poster on this forum

you left a campaign getting no impressions live for 2 weeks? you should've made a change if your campaign got no impressions on the first day. 100 keywords is a lot for a newbie, but they must be so specific that no one is searching for them.

i say redo your keyword research, for a small campaign start out with 2-3 tightly focused ad groups of 4-6 phrase/exact keywords that actually get searches.

First thing, thank you very much Sevnrock for replying and helping me out. The reason i didnt change the adwords sooner is because this is quite new too me. I thought that i should leave them for a while and see what happens. I think one of the major reasons i havnt any clicks is because of the budget size. Its £30 for the month with upto 40 pence per click. Am i correct in thinking this is the main reason i havnt had any clicks yet?

The thing which i am promoting is a very specifc niche. I only offer the same thing thoughout. For this reason all my ads offer the same thing. I have 6 different ads done in different styles. But with all the same keywords.

Does all this sound ok? or is there any mistakes or anything else i could be doing?

I just wanna add that at the moment adcentre estimates 880 impressions and zero clicks per month. Does this mean i need many more longtail and wide keywords?

oh wow yeah, that is a very small budget - £1 a day? however, you should've still at least gotten some impressions in a span of 2 weeks since adCenter tries to spend your budget (£30) in a month.

one campaign usually revolves around one offer. for instance, if im promoting free ringtones, i could start with 2 ad groups and a few keywords and still spend $100 a day. or expand it to 30 ad groups and spend $1500 a day and still be promoting 1 offer.

i'd be much better able to help you if you gave me some examples. feel free to send me a PM if you want to talk privately, i don't mind helping people willing to learn :)

Nope that probably means you need to loosen the belt a little. Take some keywords out of exact and into broad/phrase or try new ad groups.
