Well, I started my first blog a couple of days ago, and would like some commenst. I am doing it on what I know best, which is emergency medicine, and kind of documenting runs from my career. If you are the type that have a weak heart, please don't read it. It has some funny things, but also some very sad ones. It is only a sample of what I have planned, but you get the idea. Thanks, www.emtstories.com
* EMS Dictionary - what's the sort order? Why not alpha? * The red underline on the blue/purple in the footer might cause a situation requiring an EMT, if one were to glance down at it too many times. * About those 'Static Links' ... * The ads within the content are more distracting than eye-catching. I'd have to suggest moving them to between the blog entries, instead of within them. * White on the baby blue for the left navigation is a little hard to read, and may be more difficult as the user gets older. Depending upon your (intended) audience ... * I'd recommend the 'About' information being a little more visible. I looked at your site's byline, and looked immediately for your 'About me/us' section. It didn't occur to me to check for a category (although I think that's a good choice to have such a category, if you'll be using it more than twice). Excellent choice in a topic (something you know), and something I'll actually be reading (as I'm a sucker for a good story). ~jk
Thanks for the feedback. As it is my first venture into blogging, it is also my first crack at editing blog templates. I have been trying to mutter my way around them, and making changes as I see them. the dictionary is just basically a compilation I threw together when I was trying to figure out the static links. I will revise it eventually. I agree about the ads. I have toyed with them in different places, and will take your suggestion. I would actually rather move the about category to the top of the list. I know I can go into the code and do it, but I have been waiting to see if I found a way in WordPress to arrange them. Thanks for the compliments. With as many years as I have spent in EMS, I have a gazillion more things to write about. It is actually harder to decide which ones to write first, rather than trying to think of something to write.
Sounds good. I'm positive I'm not the only person that uses WordPress, so ask away if you run into a wall - I'm sure someone will have a solution. Overall, very nice thus far.
Actually, if someone could tell me if there is a way, other than in the code, to move links up or down in category, I would appreciate it.
Looking at the code, am I reading this correct - the default sort order is by ID? Back to the matter at hand, how about a plug-in? http://wordpress.org/support/topic/24026 ~jk
Actually, they are listed in the order I created them. they do have IDs, and that is why I would think there should be an easy way to sort them using ID number, but I cannot find it. I will try the plugin you suggested. Thanks for the help.
ID = the order you created them. I believe I see where to do it in the code itself, but, if you want to stay away from that ... I can't believe it's not a feature (as someone asks for it as a feature) - maybe in 2.0? EDIT: Let us know how the plug-in works for you.
The plugin did not work. It only allowed me to sort the category headings, like "Category" "Links" "Other Links" I seen in the Wordpress forums, wherte someone else ask about it, and they were told to delet their categories, and redo them in the order they want them. LOL kind of extreme. Wierd, There is a feature to do it for the Links sections, just not the category sections.
Indeed. Certainly wouldn't take too much time to add another column to the row, and another field to the admin interface ... Ah well, again, may in 2.0.
