I'm actually promoting my own product using affiliate marketing techniques which I could apply to an affiliate program if I wanted to. I'm having problem getting clicks because I'm in a very competitive niche. I don't think 20 clicks from 13,500 impressions is that great. However, I'm currently working on two better ideas which should be easier for me to promote.

I think I may have fine tuned the system. The best way to draw in people is to NOT advertise what you're trying to hook them up on. If AJ were to advertise ringtones through Adwords, it's like he's trying to sell them before he's convinced them that they actually want the ringtones. Doesn't work that well. It's also more expensive because slightly irrelevant descriptions in Adwords costs you higher CPC and makes more of your phrases inactive.

OK, launched another campaign last night in an attempt to test some more theories.

I'm thinking it pays to dig through each provider and figure out which ones have a tone that people would go nuts over. Can't just base it on highest payout.

    We'll see.

You can also ask your AM for the ringtone catalog for the providers you are looking at pushing to get a better idea of what they have... pretty useful to have.

Will they do that? That's a great idea.

I've been going to the various ringtone sites (Flycell, Jamster, etc) manually and searching for their hot ringtones...or tones that COULD be hot.

    Hmmm.

Yea, that's what I used to do. Your AM can supply you with an Excel workbook so you can filter stuff down (and use it to build one huge keyword list).

Hey AJ. How does the amount of clicks per impressions affect your campaign?

Oh, Greg. I guess I'll answer your question since you're not out for blood today (yet).

From my experience, Google seems to give more horsepower and juice to campaigns that yield a decent CTR on the content network. They seem to like consistency, too. For example:

My good campaigns that have been going on content for 4+ months now get 3,000,000 impressions a day with upwards of a .002% CTR, which equates to 5,000-6,000 clicks a day (avg cpc of .0765)

Not sure if that answered your question, but again, Google seems to reward consistency and campaigns that yield decent CTR on the content network.

I will do that when I get home from work. Yes, I should be working right now but I am too focused on this. Last night I actually dreamed I was bidding on AdWords...no joke. My wife is convinced that I've flipped...lol.

Wait, something doesn't make sense. Why would you be creating a massive keyword list around a ringtone when you previously stated that you are not......wait a minute.....I'm having another of those moments.

Before my current campaigns on Content, I tried dominating Search w/ ringtones and with little to no capital (things like "50 cent ringtones" "britney ringtones" etc. etc.). It's do-able, but you need A LOT of cash on standby cause you'll lose thousands a day before breaking even... I didn't have the money to do this.

I made the mistake of bidding on the keyword "ebay" AGAIN and woke up this morning with most of my keywords Google slapped with a minimum of $.50-$1.00. I was down to $.15 or $.20 a click last night. I just had to start a new campaign because I had 35,000 impressions with about 50 clicks. Not that great.

Not to mention every single click I got from the "ebay" keyword was garbage.

wow, bad mistake. You definatly want to bid on low price keywords. Ok think of it like this. It's not the keywords that matter, but the people searching for the keywords. So if you're selling ringtones, then you want to bid on keywords that people who would buy ringtones would search for.

Yea - you want to create a long term business model, not try and go slipping under the radar bidding on 'MySpace' and 'eBay' for 15 or 20 minutes at a time...
