DMOZ is a favourite directory? I think you're in the minority here.

 

It really depends whether you are included or not

 

So editors like it and everyone else hates it

 

I am not an editor and I like it. And yes I do have some sites that are not included yet.

 

I do actually use DMOZ quite a lot. But, it has some definite problems at the moment that do need fixing.

 

DMOZ becomes your best friend when your site is listed.

 

And when your sites are listed several times, Dmoz becomes your master

 

DMOZ is one of the main directories you want to get in because of the status it gives your site "...I am in DMOZ, and..." and also for the link pop your get from all the clones.

 

I list all of my sites in directories I already mentioned. I usually don't submit to any other directories, but I am always considering the list expansion.

 

The $64,000 question is do you get any benefit from the clones? Many people think you don't.

 

bcentral doesn't work. Hotmail doesn't work. Why should I use IE to do very basic site submission. I understand they want more than personal info and cookies, and visited url list; but submissions should either go through or fail. I guess I will be charged for nothing after wasting a full hour.

 

egdcltd: Well if the clones are are indexed and your site is in the clone then yes it will benifit you. Domain pop.

 

A comment on site sift. I applied and paid with my chosen favorite anchor. They added useless domain in title killing all anchor value. But they have links to their competing sites
with best anchors which don't even appear in titles. This discourages me from submitting more sites.

 

I think it is a good thing for a directory not to accept most of the titles that people submit because people tend to stuff the titles with all kind of keywords. So IMHO if a directory wants to be professional and not spammy it should use the website name for the title, and then webmasters can put some keywords in description of the site.
