My facebook group got TOO BIG (18,000 members) what should i do?

i cannot message the members of the group no more.

any suggestions?

I read somewhere else that they just put a new rule in - if you have over 5,000 in your network - you can't message the members of your group. Not sure when that took effect.

I switched over to Twitter and trying to tweet about a lot of stuff to draw in traffic - forget FB!

 

ya i know, thats why i lost my ability to do that with the group.

what sucks is i cant even invite those members to other groups now. the group is essentially useless it seems unless someone here has a good idea what to do with a group when it gets like that.

 

Kick some members? Or euh, sell it?

 

This is why you should have made a FB page to begin with, you can message the members AND get on their mini-feed home pages.

I recommend selling it. You probably won't get much without the ability to send messages, but that group is of very little use to you now.

i might do that.

i got a fan page setup with it as well. that is around 500 members now.

do fan pages lose messaging abilities as well? im gonna start deleting some members to get back down to 4999 then message them all to hit the fan page. then let the group grow and manipulate again

Dont know if this is possible but hey you never know. Have a programming guru make an application that accesses your facebook and on autopilot sends out the same message to each member of your group. Like I said I dont know if this is possible but worth the inquiry. Im going to look into it myself.

Yeah just sell it. There are lot of people ready for buying Fb groups for Good amount. Just give a try or else keep it for promoting your website

and to the one who asked, you can send messages on pages no matter what the number of fans is, the problem is that pages updates are not as effective as group messages cos they just do not show on inbox with other messages sent from friends, they are stored in a separate folder which is hardly checked.

 

Is it legal in FB? I just dont want to get banned because 60% of my traffic comes from FB.
