This week I had one of my articles Dugg and have received over 70,000 hits from Digg, StumbleUpon and various other news sites. It goes to show that it doesn't matter how much optimization you do, that you still need good content. I've written more about it on my blog and broken down the statistics, hopefully its a good read for anyone looking to get article based traffic. http://imafish.co.uk/blog/post/index/155/getting-dugg-and-surviving-70000-hits-in-one-week/
I read your blog and saw your screenshots of the spike in visits. stumble visits were in the 9000s whilst digg gave you 22,000.It corroborates the fact that news networking can give you excellent traffic if approached well. But it is also worthwhile to get quality content that readers would want to look over. One thing of interest was the spike and plunge effect of the traffic.
As you said on your blog your CTR was very poor: On average for the week page click through rate has been at 0.19% ... It’s pretty well known that Digg users don’t click adverts
yeah they are poor for clicking, but great if you want to start up a new community or create buzz about a product.
Gr8!!!! one, taking the point, even if the CTR was too low also, i think the dude must have earn money equivalent to 10 Cheque release of Google!!!!!
I've also found that when I've had digg spikes my adsense CTR's have hit rock bottom. However, they often generate a few useful links
I've noticed that Diggs don't help adsense that much, but they do give you links, links, and more links that you don't have to build yourself. If you pick up a few loyal readers out of it, it will pay off in the long run.
Did you make any money off the Digg users? My experience is that Digg users don't generally go for ads
great article, how come you don't have a digg button on your site? I am using gregarious, and it is great. you can see it in action on my blog. I highly recommend it, I think you would get even more hits, since your article is really good. http://bill.checkmyhead.com/2007/05/17/google-so-funny/ the link above shows the digg button on the bottom.
