    Are you serious?

    Excite is older than Google. They used to be famous back in the late 90s and early 00s (especially their email service).

    And you who have never heard of it... You're young and new to the internet.

    Excite is a very old search engine why it fell by the wayside i am not sure,i guess it never changed with the times you cannot stand still on the internet.

    was he really trying to pass it off as his own site or did people just misunderstand?

    eta: I haven't visted excite for years - it looks terrible now.
    Excite UK looks a lot better, in a blog/web 2.0 sort of way.
