Yeah well it doesn't help to have people gaming the system and only be concerned about clicks and not care what kind of return the advertisers have... Because what that likely does is not only drive those advertisers away, but it also takes money out of other publishers pockets who would have delievered a higher level of visitor. Saying that some advertisers maybe should just leave is not terribly useful. Any advertiser can be succesful in Adwords, depending on the field and how they are willing to use it. Every category seeks its own level. Claiming some advertisers should scrap adwords because some publishers want to deliver less qualified visitors is not useful to anyone.

Do you think the only factor that goes into television advertising is who will pay the most for a given spot? It is a partnership relationship. The television networks know if they don't deliver customers for the sponsors they will not come back. So everyone has to work together to make sure that happens. Same thing here. In your world television would just be ads for porn.

Because they track that stuff. And nobody is even saying that is necessarily the case with these images, but it certainly could be.. And if it is then it is not good for anyone in the long run. Not good for advertisers, not good for publishers, even the ones benefiting from it now.

You are implying that people led into ads by adjacent images may be less likely to by immediately, but more likely to buy long-term. Since there is no real evidence that WE have to support the impact of these ads on final sales, except for some anecdotal evidence, it is a bit of a strange for you to make your claim.

I could also claim that people who feel tricked by images next to ads are going to hold a grudge and tell two other people about their bad experience and hurt long term sales of an advertiser. My theory is as plausible as yours.

Nothing wrong with being tricky if it delievers sales. If it just drives up costs, then maybe it is the publisher who should leave.
