    Hi there,

My name is Noam and in a freelance advertising expert from Tel aviv Israel.

I am doing a survey for my advertising students on internet retailing and ecommerce websites.

I thought it will be great getting other advertising and ecommerce experts to share their experience in order to help young entrepreneurs and students to avoid the pitfalls Of Starting an e- commerce business.

I have searched for this kind of personal testimonials all over the place- but somehow I didn’t find the ones that addressed these specific questions or were specific enough. This led me to construct the following questionnaire.

if you are a successful internet or eCommerce entrepreneur - It would be great if you could spend a few minutes to answer it
-Your cooperation in this regard would be highly appreciated.

    - In exchange for your time you will be credited with full name and link to your website, and on my twitter \Facebook\ website and of course in front of my students.

So here goes my Retail Chicken and e-commerce egg questionnaire:

    1. What was the first thing you have done for your ecommerce site :

(Buy the domain? Choose the design? Write a Business plan? A bit of everything?)

    2. Did you do it yourself or got help from other service providers or companies?

    3. How long did it take to you get the first site running? Was it a beta version or a completed website?

    4. Did you go for a template site or a custom design?

    5. Did you fund it yourself or used investors? Bank credit?

    6. When you finally got your first online business up and running – what was the first marketing attempt you've made, on what platform? And how did it work?

    7. Where did you get your first traffic from and what was the best move that brought you the biggest amount of traffic?

    8. Where did you get your products\merchants from? Did you approach each vendor specifically or mass invited them?

    9. Did you perform a digital public relations campaign? How did it work?

    10. What was the biggest mistake you have made in your ecommerce business? What is absolutely crucial to avoid in the first few months?

Care to give one last personal tip or advice for the entrepreneurs or students?

    Thank you for your time!

    1. What was the first thing you have done for your ecommerce site :
I gathered product images, then started to make a simple web design around my product(it was a single product store).

    2. Did you do it yourself or got help from other service providers or companies?
    I did it all myself.

    3. How long did it take to you get the first site running? Was it a beta version or a completed website?
It took me about 2-3 days.

    4. Did you go for a template site or a custom design?
I made the site from scratch with HTML and the CSS framework Bootstrap

    5. Did you fund it yourself or used investors? Bank credit?
It did not need funding as it was an online store only as well as i dropshipped the products.

    6. When you finally got your first online business up and running – what was the first marketing attempt you've made, on what platform? And how did it work?
I started blogging about my product, gave tips and information about it then advertised those blog posts on reddit and in various forums related to my product, this gave a spike in traffic and i managed to get 150 UV per day through that technique for as long as i continued to blog.

    7. Where did you get your first traffic from and what was the best move that brought you the biggest amount of traffic?
I got my first traffic from Reddit, and as mentioned above it was blogging about my product and then promoting those blog posts on reddit that brought the most traffic.

    8. Where did you get your products\merchants from? Did you approach each vendor specifically or mass invited them?
I already knew where to buy the product from as i had previously used the product myself and had quite a good knowledge of how it worked, i drop shipped them from a wholesaler/retailer in china.

    9. Did you perform a digital public relations campaign? How did it work?
Not quite sure what that means..
If that means i paid for advertising through adwords or similar, then no, i did not.

    10. What was the biggest mistake you have made in your ecommerce business? What is absolutely crucial to avoid in the first few months?
Be sure to write a rock solid Terms of service, privacy policy and shipping policy, protect yourself from paypal chargebacks, and get a proper web design that doesnt look fake or like a scam site.

Care to give one last personal tip or advice for the entrepreneurs or students?
