My earnings have dropped by massively overnight!

Wonder if anybody on here can shed some light on my problem.

2 days a go I had exactly 100 clicks on my adsense ads on my site which earned me $83.30 so thats a income of $0.83 per click which is about normal for advert types I display.

Yesterday I had 1060 clicks on my site due to some quite nice site advertising I did which I was really pleased about but only earned $39.72 which works out at about $0.03 per click.

I havent changed the site at all between these days so I know the same sort of adverts must be coming up on my site but why has my earnings per click gone down so much in 24 hours?

My site is only small and its fair to say that many of the adverts that appear on my site will have been clicked maybe 7 or 8 times in some cases by different people. Does this bring the earnings right down?

Look at the big picture you are looking at very small sample data. Adsense always has it's highs and lows.

 

So I should expect the earnings per click to jump up again then?

 

Yes. Just ride the highs and lows and look at monthly data to get a better picture of what's really happening. I completely understand your frustration though

 

Thanks for the help. I have only been running adsense for a week so Im very new to it all. I was worried that my earnings would stay that low from now on.

Welcome to the world of Smart Pricing. Your site has not been producing converting traffic for the advertisers so they have smart priced your clicks to compensate them.

I dont understand. You mean the people that are sent to the advertisers websites by clicking on the adsense ads on my site are not signing up or joining in to whatever they are selling.

Does the advertisers then not pay as much for traffic from my site because its not making them money through sales or sign up's?

If so, how do they even work that out?

There is no point analysing stats on a day to day basis. Also, it does seem to the case taht people earnings are initially higher and start getting smartpriced. The depth of smartpricing will of course vary from site to site.

 

I agree with qwestcommunications. You should analyze more data. Also, yesterday was slow for me too.
