My ear was sliced and diced today.

A couple of months ago I had a custom Jamiroquai (my all time favorite band) earring made of their logo, the Buffalo-Man. It was made in silver and took the jewelers 4 days to complete. At the time I was REALLY happy with it - so I gave them a $10 tip and ended up paying $90 for it.

Fast forward a couple of months to this morning, at 12:30am. It was almost time for bed. My earring had seemed a little tighter than usual, so I decided to take it out for the night after leaving it in for a few weeks. Problem: the butterfly clip (the back part of an earring that holds it in place) was missing. I started to frantically search around my bedroom — until I felt my ear. Yes, the butterfly clip was embedded IN my earlobe. Oops.

After a less-than-relaxing sleep I made my way down to the hospital. The doctor managed to remove the actual earring, but not the butterfly clip. He wasn’t convinced that the clip was in there, so he sent me off to get my ear x-rayed just to be sure. The x-ray revealed that the clip was infact in there - so back to the doctor I go.

He then raped my ear with 3 huge needles and then sliced the earlobe open to dig the clip out. It was all done really quickly and I couldn’t feel a thing, so a big thumbs up for local anesthetic!

I’m now sitting here with a bunch of bandages and band-aids attached to my poor half-an-earlobe. There are a few pics in my blog entry - they're not that graphic so don't be afraid. :p

    OUCH!!
But onto the earring, what sit made out of?
$90 seems really inexpensive for that.

I had a custom earring made out of 999 white / yellow gold by an exclusive jewelers here in town.
Ended up costing me $450+.. :/

It's a silver earring - I was pretty surprised when they quoted me only $80, particularly considering it's a pretty tough shape to cut.

Best of luck with the recovering mate.

Makes me never think of piercing, I never personally fantasized it :p

Fortunate that you had noticed it :p, imagine it unattended for a while, it could have been much much worse.

Lucks on ur side... make a fast recovery ;)

Thanks for the well wishes guys! It's not as worse as it sounds, just a battered up earlobe really. :)

KMKM, yeah it is quite fortunate - the doctor was convinced that the bump he was feeling (which was the butterfly clip) was actually inflammation, so hadn't it been for the x-ray I think things could've gotten much, much worse in week or so.

Good think that your local anesthetic knows how things work. My dentist performed root canal treatment on me with just one injection(dont know how much, but very little - something like 1 ml) of anesthetic - his excuse was that local anesthetic was bad for health.

For 90 mins, it felt like my jaws were on fire, and I was rolling around the chair - but the dumbass didn't seem to care... =|
