So I was surfing expired domains the past few days & had my eye on a particular domain. I did my research such as looking into page rank, backlinks & alexa rating so on so forth.

My my surprise, the domain has an Alexa rating of 62. Still today, as I verify.. Same thing. Alexa rates it awesome & claims that the site is bringing in over 1% of all internet surfers competing with most sites & competing with ebay.

The domain is: erbefole.net & has a coming soon page. Alexa seems to have mistaken free.fr with erbefole. Somehow they seem to have been related.

Has anyone run across this before, i'm not sure if I should get my hopes up or not. The traffic is 3 hits so far within 3+ hours. Makes me believe it's a glitch with Alexa.

Can I benefit from this somehow? If you go to alexa & type in the domain, you'll see what I mean.

If someone speaks french & knows the meaning of this site would be helpful also. The site was tied in with free.fr

Free.fr & my domain share the same Alexa rating.

How can both sites have / share an Alexa score of 62?

In another post, someone states that It's called "spoofing"... where the owner of a domain points the registrar DNS to another domain and waits... Once the search engines correlate the domain to the "spoofed" domain they switch it back to the place holder page (or some other web page and promote it for sale...)

Any idea how I can generate more traffic & adsense with a higher alexa score? If I place adsense on the site, will it benefit or change the payouts?

I was looking to convert the site into an adsense populated directory.

    its looks really strange.

I don't know Alexa system enougth to tell you what is going on (a bug or something like that) - but it states cleary that the 62 rank is for free.fr, not your domain.

Anyway I don't see any benefit for your domain with this situation as you are not really getting the traffic of a top 100 Alexa site.
