Well I got my server back I'm just taking all the provisions to make sure there's no loopholes in my scripts (basically making sure all open source scripts are up to date), etc. I called my host and they fixed my FTP...I am also putting my server's firewall on extremely high settings so it doesn't happen again [hopefully]. All in all, my sites were down for over 48 hours. Some of my sites receive over 3000 unique visitors per day and the downtime gave me a pretty heavy loss, especially in search engine rankins - the bots came to crawl but the site was down!
If it's any consolation you should get those rankings back within a couple of weeks. Ranking drops due to downtime (Yahoo is especially hot on this) are just a tempoary thing.
A while back, one of my servers were suspended for spam, my host shut it down for 22 hours, and it cost me a lot of $$. What did I learn? Secure my server, and it won't happen again!
Well I don't know if I should say...I mean I like the hosting company - this is the first problem and downtime I've run into, but I am pretty mad about the whole situation since I wasn't contacted about it. I don't want to bash the company. >.<;
F**k that. They have treated you like shit. Your on a dedicated plan so your a good customer to them and they treat you like that. Heck I'm on VPS and get treated better then that. They should have at least warned you of the issue to give you a chance to look into it before making threats.
All the member here are trying to help here and now you are trying to protect the company which treated you like shit. Even if you reveal name of company its not that we are going to blindly shut our options for that company, as you been saying it could be some exploited script on your server. So I don't see why you are so hesitant to diclose name of company. You would be helping other members here making future decesions about that company based on this incident.
Yeah I wanna know who the company is too. Its not like its going to be the only company that treats hacked people like dirt...most of them do get harsh.
